Sunday lunch with the Posners

  • 2003 Domaine Philippe Tessier Cour-Cheverny La Porte Dorée - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Cour-Cheverny (10/4/2009)
Something is definitely off with this bottle. Color is deep gold. Oxidized, sherry aromas dominate the nose. On the palate, a slight marcona almond taste comes through. Alas, it’s ultimately overtaken by the same rancio sherry notes as on the nose. NR (flawed)

1997 Château de la Négly Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape Porte du Ciel - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape (10/4/2009)
Now we’re talking! This massive, dark red wine offers up amazing aromas of espresso, cassis liqueur, roast cocoa beans and roasted meat. In mouth, age has given it a smooth and refined texture with amazingly rich red and black fruit and quite a bit of warm, sweet spices. The tannins are quite integrated and the wood treatment has been done with a deft hand. This is a wonderful example of Syrah and a revelation to drink. (95 pts.)

Thanks to Dan for bringing that Négly.

No.

For the 5th time…it’s “Not for me!”. Learn the scale man. [soap.gif]

Not enough brown sugar and BBQ sauce? pepsi

Actually, not cloudy enough. [welldone.gif]

I’ll be buying more.

Thanks Jorge…and thanks for that 3 hour chicken…you will have to give everyone the recipe. neener

Jorge told me to pick something out of his cellar. Sometimes I see a wine that I am pretty sure will suck, but I like to be surprised.

2003 Cour Cheverny sucked. No surprise.

The wine was undrinkable. I had half a glass before moving onto the Negly, which I may have decanted for too long but was still delicious.

I believe 1997 is the first vintage, happy to own more of it!

Jorge, I brought the '97 negly Porte du Ciel to a dinner and served it blind. It absolutely rocked and blew peoples minds. Thanks for the notes.

It was 2-hour chicken, exagerator. FYI, that’s the definition of BBQ…low & slow. When you throw a couple of cow patties on your little red mini grill and they come out all raw and stuff you don’t hear ME complaining. [tease.gif]

Now, care to elaborate a little more on the wines or are you another practitioner of the “OK+” school of wine ratings?

Mark,

I saw your note on CT. You were straight on the money. I’m glad I have friends like Daniel that alllow me to taste these gems. [thumbs-up.gif]

2.5 hours, whatever.

My burgers are good. Period.

Nothing to elaborate on.

I enjoyed the Negly a lot, but I regret decanting it. You nailed it, Miller, I mean, Jorge.
