I’ve got the place to myself this afternoon, with Jerry Garcia currently taking the lead on Not Fade Away from 11/15/72, so I decided to finish up two bottles from yesterday and check on two other “entries” for tonight’s dinner.
-
2011 Château Thivin Côte de Brouilly - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly (8/17/2014)
About 10 months since I last tried this wine; translucent ruby in the glass, with a “fresh” nose that features red & black fruits, like a raspberry/blackberry combo.
Very smooth on the palate; nice legs. Tart red fruits - this is quite good right now, although I think that it still has some ability to improve with further age.
-
2011 Nikolaihof Riesling Federspiel Vom Stein - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (8/17/2014)
Light yellow-white in the glass; pineapple fruit-nuance and minerals on the nose.
Brisk acidity, very refreshing, subtle and elegant on a light-bodied frame. Unfortunately the last glass from my last bottle, which I opened yesterday, but this is eminently drinkable right now.
-
2012 Château de Trinquevedel Tavel Rosé Vignoble Demoulin - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Tavel (8/17/2014)
Darker salmon pink in the glass; nicely scented nose, almost a floral quality here - the closest fruit nuance I can get is something vaguely like watermelon.
Bone dry on the palate, adequate acidity, nice follow-through on the finish. Better on the nose than the palate, but this is pretty good all in.
-
2013 Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica - Italy, Marche, Verdicchio di Matelica (8/17/2014)
Light yellow in the glass; brisk nose, minerally, with a hint of Granny Smith apple.
Refreshing, but a bit dilute. Would work well as an aperitif on the deck before the serious eating & drinking start.
