So very hot this week so thinking some new summer cocktails should be in the mix. I drink a lot of Hugo Spritzes as they are light and fresh or an Aviation.
French blondes seem to be popular this year. And I saw a recipe for a blackberry bramble that may be fun.
Not new, but nothing like a gin & tonic w/a thin grapefruit wedge on a hot day.

Besides G&T, Paloma, and Negroni…Mezcal Blanco Negroni (equal parts - mezcal, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, dry vermouth) and Sunshine Fix (equal parts - gin, Aperol, fresh squeezed lemon juice)

Negronis of various versions, G&T of course plus Mojito , Caipirinha, Tommy’s Margarita, Wet Martini
and our little house special “Final Approach’, a Paper Plane for those who think Aperol is a waste of a serviceable bottle
- 1¼ oz Maker’s 46, or other bourbon
- 1 oz Campari
- 1 oz Amaro Nonino
- scant ¾oz lemon juice
Shake well with ice , serve over a few small ice cubes in a chilled coupe.
Pimms will be entering the lineup shortly
PS before someone asks the obvious question, I’m using up a couple of bottles of Makers Mark , and then Legent bourbons bought before the Ontario government ban on US liquor in response to US tariffs on Canada; once those bottles are gone I will be switching to Signal Hill, a Canadian whiskey from Halifax. ( until my recent foray into cocktails I rarely drank bourbon, kept a couple of bottles for guests).

Been drinking some Orange Crush
Orange vodka, triple sec, orange juice and a splash of club soda over some crushed ice
Kind of only works for me in the midday hot sun

tequila blanco with club soda and lime
non-pastry shop rum (appleton 8, chairman’s reserve, el dorado 8) with club soda and lime (and some angostura bitters)
I would make some shochu highballs, but I don’t have easy access to them (kokuto, sesame).
I used to drink campari with soda and dark n stormy too, but I am trying to avoid excessive sugar in my alcohol.
I spend my summers in high humidity so wine is meh. I am also not into beers particularly, especially lagers.
