My wife and I will be in Venice for a week and would greatly appreciate any suggestions for wine stores and off the beaten path restaurants. Thanks
I think the good stores are in LA.
However, This is the place.
It’s a great place to wander/wonder; just don’t walk into a canal. I’m hoping you have a great time. if you can take a water taxi to your hotel, I’d recommend it but not sure of current cost.
Wife was there for some work a year ago, and there was some fun things here; https://www.enotecamillevini.it/
Otherwise she picked me up a 1986 Lino Maga Montebuono at a very reasonable price from Vino Vero, who also serves some cicchetti. The wine list is a bit more on the low-intervention side but with some valentini, pepe, maga etc. inbetween.
I use the Slow Food app called Osterie d’Italia for restaurant recommendations.

We were in Venice in May. Had a fabulous meal at Osteria da Fiore, highly recommend. Also had a meal at Ristorante Ribot, kind of touristy but pretty good.
Number one would be Alle Testiere for seafood; book now, fills up months in advance. My two other favorites are Osteria da Fiore and Club del Doge on the terrace at the Gritti Palace (these last two are high end).
For a casual lunch (salad and pizza) Taverna San Trovaso (inexpensive, not fine dining but good pizza).
For the best snacks (cicchetti) and a very good wine shop, Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi, off the beaten path.
For a wine bar that sells wine (and has food) is Enotecha Mascareta. Definitely off the beaten path. I’d wind up there after dinner many a night.
@ToddFrench Can this thread move to the Travel section? We’re really starting to have a good database there of restaurant and travel information, and this thread could get lost here in Wine Talk.
Done
All super helpful. I’ll post what we found when we get back.
Do Schiavi, Vino Vero, Estro , Vini da Gigio, Antiche Carampane
Chat qui rit has a great champagne list and it’s right off Piazza San Marco
Caffe’ Quadri for fine dining is pretty spectacular
We stayed in May at the Principe di Savoia in Milan and had an excellent dinner at Da Giacomo. Seafood based menu.
My wife and I loved our dinner at Hostaria da Franz.
I expected to be disappointed in Venice’s food scene, but we ate very well. You pay for the location, but we managed to find places that didn’t feel like they were phoning it in for cruise ship day-trippers.

We were in Venice in March and enjoyed all 3. The first was near our vrbo and was great.
