Hi, I started a tradition a couple years ago where I’d spend way more than usual on a special birthday wine. I’ve been on a huge champagne kick this year and was wondering if people had suggestions on champagnes that are drinking great right now. My birthday is in September. So a little bit of time to find something. Looking for something under $500.
Oh that’s a good point! I tend to love nutty / bready components. So longer time spent on the lees in general and Krug’s classic style. Grand Siecle 26 was awesome. I loved the 2010 billecart salmon rose 2010. I think it’s drinking better than the 2012 cuvee Elisabeth. 2014 Bollinger La grande annee was great. Those are some of my favs this year.
Would love to try vintage krug but yeah not as easy to secure. My local wine shop has some of the RD 08 and after reading about it seems incredible. Thank you!
Based on the incredible 08 rose tasting we did a fortnight ago, I’d go with a bottle each of 08 billecart salmon cuvee elisabeth and deutz cuvee amour. Both absolutely stunning.
I want to thank everyone for amazing suggestions! Hopefully will be able to try many on this list. I found a krug 164 eme at auction based on the 08 vintage so decided on that! Thanks again!!
