YOU READ THAT RIGHT.

Thank you to the intrepid Berserkers, those steadfast imbibers, the stalwart tasters and posters, those of both hedonistic and altruistic bent, those whose support comes in every size from split to nebuchadnezzar. May our fledgling nation of wine producers survive to see the last gasps of this new prohibition, to fight back the scoundrel peddlers of austerity and to carry forth the grand message of eight millennia of human inebriation, celebration and artistry in the medium of grape juice.

You can look up our tasting notes on CellarTracker if you want. Our wines are much beloved for their big flavor, fun and imaginative styling. We source from great vineyards up and down the coast and look for wines with personality and a story to tell. But if I could distill the Stereophonic brand down to four simple words?

TASTING NOTES:

2023 Chardonnay, Norgrove Vineyard, SLO Coast - A Chardonnay sculpted by its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, where cool mornings and marine air create a sleek and electric glass of wine. Into the Blue Again offers vivid aromas and flavors of key lime, granny smith apple, a dash of salted butter and the smell of the air after a spring rain. The well-regarded Clone 4 of Chardonnay is uniquely suited to the cool climate and soils of the SLO Coast, delivering rich flavor and texture while retaining a bright, fresh finish.

Painfully young, this wine develops beautiful character with decanting and drinks better on day two and day three. This is why we are offering a special price on a 6-pack to track this over time. $25 a bottle for top Chardonnay. Thank you, and enjoy!

Fermented in barrel, 20% of which was new, medium toast. 10% aged in stainless steel. 90% of the wine has undergone Malolactic fermentation. Bottled in July 2024. 13.5% alcohol.

2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain District - Sourced from noble, battle-tested old vines in the north-west corner of Diamond Mountain District, this is a dense, full-bodied heritage Cabernet with complexity at beginning, middle and end. The 2022 vintage has delivered a Cabernet of dreadful power, with expansive dark fruit flavors, beautiful oak accents and lush tannin structure that all together will allow this historic Cabernet to enter its Second Age with its power on full display.

Beginning with a dark, opaque garnet color, this rich, forward Cabernet smolders with the intensity of the 2022 Napa vintage. Swirling brings out dramatic aromas with black cherry jam, mexican chocolate and fine tobacco.

The first sip brings a succession of fruit and barrel note flavors as this young, exuberant Cabernet shows off with blueberry, black cherry and strawberry jam flavors enhanced by cinnamon, cocoa powder and sandalwood notes. A bright, fleshy, oak-influenced finish delivers another mexican chocolate note, along with candied fruits and fresh toasted bread.

The persistent fruit and fresh acidity are a special bonus that we have come to expect from this old Diamond Mountain planting. With such broad, expressive fruit, the brightness refreshes the palate and prepares it for another sweep of decadent flavor.

With a short decant, you’ll enjoy a forward, hedonistic Cabernet with a structure that will compel you to crack bottle after bottle this holiday season.

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain District - Sourced from old vines in the north-west corner of Diamond Mountain District, this is an intense, long, medium-bodied heritage Cabernet with complexity at beginning, middle and end. The 2021 vintage has delivered a real glimpse into Napa’s past - a deeply flavorful Cabernet with silky texture and finely-etched tannins that all together will allow this historic Cabernet to truly blossom with cellaring. This is the one.

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain District - Inspired by (but not a replication of) the Cabernets that made Napa famous in the 70’s and 80’s, “Untrue” boasts abundant cherry and currant fruits laced with tobacco and spicy peppercorn accents. It’s generous but with air shows a underlying structure that really justifies 5-10 years of cellaring to enjoy it’s true potential. It’s a swirl of powerful flavors, spiciness and grip that makes for a fantastic dinner companion.

This vineyard sits on the exact border of Diamond Mountain District and Sonoma and is closest to Armstrong Ranch (half a mile), an old site that is used at Lerner Project, at Provenance as a single vineyard, and was a St. Clement Vineyard designate a long time ago. AR also makes up a little bit of Beringer’s Private Reserve Cabernet Program. This is a 35-40 year old vineyard that faces east, is planted pretty widely spaced and information on clone was never kept. We picked at 25.5 brix and put it into new medium toast barrels from Saury and Atelier CF.

2021 Red Blend from Douro Varieties and Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles - As scientists have warned us, change is coming for us whether or not we’re ready. This blend combines grapes of California’s past and potential future with drought-resistant varieties. Dark, powerful and soulful, this wine has two sides: a welcoming, luscious blackberry character for immediate enjoyment and a firm, muscular structure that reminds us, that with our participation, the future could bring great rewards. Why sit on our hands, passively waiting to be confronted by change? Tackle it head-on. If Eventually….Why Not Now?

2021 Carignane, Denner Vineyard, Paso Robles -Snarling and sinuous, this Carignane tears apart polite winemaking norms with a mineral-strewn, savagely aromatic personality. Blood orange, pomegranate, hot asphalt and roasted rosemary aromas curl out of the glass and the wine inside delivers with a tense, potent profile uncommon in Paso Robles. Lots of tannin, lots of acidity and lots of sticky, rocky fruit evolve from this country wine with noble intensity.

2021 Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon, Old Bailey Vineyard, Paso Robles - For almost sixty vintages in the limestone hills of West Paso, Old Bailey’s ungrafted vines have reliably produced some of the most beautifully fruited Cabernet in California. The aromas and taste are packed with graceful black cherry, Santa Rosa plum and pomegranate notes with complimentary oak tones of baking spice and flowers. This promising young wine has undeniable charm and balance, its medium tannins and good natural acidity lead to a persistent finish which portends a good decade of improvement. A living piece of California’s wine history.

2019 Malbec, Briarwood Vineyard, Paso Robles - The objective here was to do something like the new wave of Argentine producers - ripe but elegant and with less reliance on whomping, toasty, astringent oak. I really love the flavors of Malbec but I think there’s too much extreme winemaking - we tried to style it a bit in a “Margaux” fashion - not light per se, but delicate and accessible - and clearly differentiated from other Bordeaux varieties. This was aged in once-filled barrels. Malbec doesn’t need to be a cheaper version of Cabernet to be awesome. We were inspired by Bodega Noemia and Bodega Aleanna (El Enemigo).

2020 Syrah, Kimsey Vineyard, Ballard Canyon - Smoked meats and briar patch aromas frame game and red plum. On the palate, the spiciness of the clusters imparts notes of tobacco, black pepper, rosemary and tea. The palate is mid-weight, viscous morello-cherry Syrah of the type I treasure from Cornas with tongue-staining extract and plenty of tannin and acidity. It almost feels like a robust, gravelly young Nebbiolo. The finish is aerial blackberry and fine tannins on the palate. There is a lot of promise in this young wine.

Besides the Matt Dees-made Kimsey Estate wines, Kimsey fruit goes to Jaffurs, Andremily, Dragonette, Blair Fox and fellow BD participant Dusty Nabor. It’s farmed by Ruben Solorzano of Stolpman/Coastal Vineyard Care. The rows come from Block 4B, Alban Powerblock clone. It’s 50% whole cluster and is aged in used barriques.

Welcome everyone!

Enjoy the offers and stay tuned - I will be adding more special offers in new posts throughout VinDependence Days.

Remember, each purchase is eligible to be doubled - I will spin a wheel and announce the results.
