Parents of young kids- talk to me about thr best dishwasher safe stemless all around glass…
I have symglass for the patio/neighbors pool but in the house im scared to pull out anything but a gilded chalice or plastic sippy cup to drink my classified growths
Your first growth probably deserves better though for simple everyday use IKEA at least used to have quite ok tumblers (2-3 euros maybe) that worked surprisingly well as wine glasses.
Gave it a try after being feed up with horrible glasses during a holiday, and the best with them was that the kids liked to be able drink from the same glasses!
I’ve used Govino on hiking trips since I first saw them. Nice shape and design, not at all bad for transmitting aromas and flavors, they come in red, white and sparkling, dishwasher safe, very hard to break, I’ve always got 6 or 8 around the house, don’t think I’ve bought more than one 4-pack every few years and that includes giving them away sporadically.
This is what I use for everyday wines. Nearly indestructible with three kids roaming the house. After the kids go to bed, celebration wines, and low risk scenarios we use GlasVin glasses. Oddly enough my mother in law has broken more nice wine glasses than the kids. She is relegated to the stone wear now too.
I’m not sure how much of this is about being dishwasher safe, per se, but pretty much any wine glass is safe in the dishwasher, including the expensive ones.
You’ll be afraid the first time you do it, but you’ll quickly realize they get clean and dry and don’t break, or at least break substantially less often than your buzzed hands do in the sink trying to hand wash.
I just received the Grassl Vyce glasses from BerserkerDay. It’s the glass in the middle. The one to the right is a Reidel. The Vyce is VERY similar, but it a bit more stable. The glass on the left is a Waterford that my wife got from her office. Very nice glasses, and very stable - much wider bottom - but are pricey. The Vyce glasses might be a good option.
I couldn’t tell much difference across the three glasses. They are all similar in thickness. The Vyce glass is more narrow, but the bottom is wider, i.e., the Reidel glass seems to taper more at the bottom. The Waterford Optics are very stable and sturdy, but not cheap.
Received my VYCE stemless glasses today. I really like the size and feel of these. And in my admittedly small sample size, they seem to have a surprising amount of aromatic focus. I’m very happy with my purchase. Thanks Chris.
100% accurate - I can guarantee the vast majority of high end restaurants are washing fancy stemware via restaurant dishwasher, which completes a cycle in 5 minutes. The 2 high end restaurants I worked at both did this and people with experience in multiple places assured me this was common. Home dishwasher is nothing.
I’m pretty pleased with these. I really have enjoyed my grassl decanter for its light weight and ease of use. The glasses follow suit. It’s not something I would have instinctively thought I would use every day but it makes way more sense then using stemware on a daily use basis. I’m pleased and will likely buy some more glassware from these guys.
