I’m staying in San Mateo next week. If the urge hits me to have a steak, where should I go? I was there last week and didnt have much luck from a restaurant perspective except for In-N-Out. Btw, I think they should change their name to In-N-Wait-N-Out…
Two places I can think of that are near by. What hotel are you staying at?
http://www.broadwayprime.com/
and a Brazilian place http://www.espetus.com/
Any other food type you looking for?
If you want to stray from Steak House try “231 Ellsworth”. Really a nice meal.
Anyplace good corkage-wise to try and get an offline together Weds? E of the bridge would work too right Tim?
Glenn, what city are you thinkiing of? My experience (live in SM) is corkage is normally is in the $15 - $25 range.
Brian isn’t there new ownership there? Haven’t been.
I’m at the San Mateo Marriott this week. Flying in early Monday, out around 5PM on Friday. I like most cuisines – what’s good in the area?
I’ll get back to you in a bit. How far are you willing to drive because your hotel location is kind of in a awkard location?
Not really thinking Ed, more hoping somebody would have a suggestion Pleasanton to San Mateo for an weeknight offline. I can’t stay late as I have surgery in the AM 2/2.
I’m probably going to make it into SF one night this week (not sure when/if client will need me again so I want to get in once) and hoping to meet up with Glenn and others if interested another night. I’ll have a car so I can drive.
Glen my knowlege of the EB is limited to Oakland Chinatown and Berkeley. The rest of the EB is… I’ll leave it alone.
Tim just know that the restaurants in the SM County are more of the so-so family type not great cuisine so don’t expect much. Of to church so give me a few.
Tim here are my other suggestions:
All Spice - Closest to your hotel and really good food
Town - in San Carlos, 15 min d to d, Steaks, on agreat street with tons of restaurants
Stella Osteria - N. Italian, one block from Burlingame Ave. Nice place to walk around nice wine shop there.
I believe all are available on Open Table. Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks, guys. I’ll check some of those out.
it’s been a few years but i have had great meals at Viognier in San mateo.
Drop your Chinatown 411 on me man.
Ones that I actually remember names of:
Legendary Palace
King Wah
Bay Fung Tong
Whatcha doing over in that area?
Town is nice but it can get really crowded.
Another option if you’re looking for steak is Izzy’s near the San Carlos airport. Steaks are pretty good, the drunken shrimp appetizer is outstanding, and the corkage is reasonable (I think it’s $15, but you’ll probably want to call first).
We drive over, pick-up wine from JJ, Selection Massale or my offsite storage and eat up some Chinese food!
Offsite storage in the EB? Your location says foothills? Good excuse to come down though.
I like my offsite to be a drive from my dinner table, find things work best that way.
If you’re up for japanese Yuzu does some good sushi - just sit at the bar. You can also try to call Wakuriya to see if they have some last minute cancellations - really good kaiseki.
