Staying in Reims vs Epernay?

Any thoughts or suggestions on Caserne Chanzy vs Royal Champagne specifically or just Reims vs Epernay more generally? 3 couples and “upscale hotel with gym” is the requirement to cover all bases for all attendees.

I Enjoyed Caserne Chanzy. We got an upgraded suite with a little patio b/c Marriott status so unsure about the standard rooms. But the location was nice. Right on the square with the cathedral. If you have a rental car, call ahead for directions to park. Can’t get to the hotel via google maps as it tries to take you through a non drivable road. I enjoyed the location to walk around Reims.

We didn’t use the gym but it looked fine. Breakfast was on the higher end spread of Marriott style buffet

Enjoyed Caserne as well (also with an upgraded room with a view). Their gym wasn’t huge, but equipments were fine. Spa was really nice. From what I read/heard, Royal Champagne seems bigger and more luxurious but Caserne’s location is great if you want to walk to large houses and restaurants in Reims. If you have enough days, I liked splitting the stay between Reims and Epernay.

We stayed at Royal Champagne a number of times prior to the big renovation. It was/is a great location and overlooking the vineyards. I’m not sure what the feel will be now that they’ve expanded, but it was a special place.

We’ve also stayed at an apt in Reims - General Pattons granddaughters place near the cathedral. It worked fine as we had our nephew on that trip. It’s a very different feeling staying in Reims vs staying at Royal Champagne. A city vs country vibe. We preferred staying at Royal Champagne - walking the vineyards in the morning, and enjoying the countryside. It’s not in Epernay but closer to Champillon.

Stayed at Royal Champagne many years ago. Beautiful setting, well situated but nothing in walking distance. If you’re looking for something more vibrant I found Epernay more charming then Reims,
