Popped in to taste a few 2024’s with Dan yesterday. This is a brilliant set of wines. Deep and powerful but light on their feet.
2024 The Standish Wine Company The Relic: Highly perfumed and deep. Satsuma plum and licorice. Powerful, luscious and layered. Great volume and presence. 2% Viognier was co-fermented with the Shiraz and there’s around 25% whole bunch.
2024 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz The Standish: A darker fruit profile than The Relic. Full, concentrated and intense with a deep core of fruit. Slippery tannins. Tightens up towards the finish and has ironstone minerality. Length is excellent.
2024 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz The Schubert Theorem: Raspberry, dark cherry and blood plum. Some bitter chocolate too. Fruits sweetness countered by all sorts of savoury nuance. Sizable but beautifully balanced. The flavour profile is threaded with a strap of licorice. Some tannic chew provides real freshness. The finish powers on.
2024 The Standish Wine Company Shiraz Lamella: So much concentration here without any excess weight. 100% whole bunch. Deep and luscious. Loads of spice and some meat and earth. Incredible balance for a wine of such horsepower. The finish is composed, expansive and super long. My favourite of these 2024’s.
