Standard pour sizes

I’m really just wondering what a standard size pour is, specifically for a dessert wine like Sauternes? Is it different depending on quality such as when you may have a 375 ml bottle versus 750 ml? Mostly thinking in your own house when you have guests over. Let’s say I have four people over. Easy enough to just pour four even glasses of 3oz.

I’d say cut it in half unless that’s the only bottle you have. When you have a few bottles (for four people), might be better off doing 1-2oz pours so they can have a chance to taste everything and then go back to what they like.

Bingo

Wait!

So a standard pour is six oz of sauternes?

Or is two oz?

i would say around 75ml is a fair pour for a sticky.

Like Charlie said, One to Two ounces is ample.

where did you get 6 from? I think even 2oz is too much for a sticky.

I read it wrong when you said to cut it in half. Half of 375 ml/12 oz is 6 oz. like I said I read it wrong though. Still 1 oz seems pretty small no? That’s like a shot glass

You drinking the wine to get your drink on or to taste? If to taste 1oz is more than plenty. No one is gonna stop anyone from pouring themselves another serving.

Hey, hold on! Sauternes is only like 13% abv.

I normally think 4oz pours for normal wines and 2oz pours for dessert wines, so 6 servings in a 750ml bottle for dinner wines and 6 servings in a 375 bottle dessert wine. But I do know some people who routinely pour 6oz glasses for normal wines (but they still do 2oz pours for dessert - go figure). But when those are all gone and you get into the brandy, well…

Haha. Or port for me.

Read your Dickens (or other Victorian writers), there’s always brandy after port.

So the evening goes…

Wine 2 glasses
Dessert wine 1 glass
Porto 1 glass
Brandy 1 large glass
Nap time

Opened an inexpensive bottle of sauternes last night.

Now i understand why a 1-2 oz pour works just fine.
