Sta Rita Hlls/Santa Ynez Suggestions

Any recent suggestions for must see/must drink/must eat in the Lompoc/Sta Rita Hills/Santa Ynez area? Lots of old reports here but nothing recent. Staying for 3 days in Solvang in April. Thanks!

Samsara, Tercero, Liquid Farm, Dragonette, and Stolpman are 100 ft away from each other.

Drop you’re a berserker and better get a driver.

Agree with the above mentioned Los olivos tasting rooms. Just down the road from solvang is Santa ynez and don’t miss the restaurant brothers at red barn. Also, for a great wine tasting experience take the 30 minute trek to Lompoc to The Hilt/ Jonata. Reservations required.

Dinner at Bar La Cote in Los Olivos (same owners as Bell’s).

I was really impressed with Joy Fantastic/Holus Bolus this last weekend (especially at that price point). I’ll try to make a post about it once I get my notes on my computer.

Thanks for the recs! Most of these are in my list. Is the wine ghetto in Lompoc worth a visit?

It’s fun and quirky. So if you’re heading out Santa Rosa Rd or 246 for the day you’re right there.

I’d add Tyler to the list as well. Fun visit, great wines.

2nd Bar Le Cote. If you pass on Bell’s, Full of Life Flatbread does a nice dinner service TH-SU. Mattei’s & Industrial Eats are also recommended. Bob’s Well Bread, either location is great for breakfast/lunch.
Does HP II still do Burger nights on Sundays?

I’ve taken people to Beckman for tastings with good feedback. I like Lo-Fi & Solminer. If you make it up to Santa Maria, in addition to the wineries at CCWS, check out Amplify.

S.Y. Kitchen is a great dinner. I like Hitching Post tasting room for lunch - order some bbq, grab a bottle from the tasting room and sit outside for a view of the hills and ostriches below. Refugio Ranch in Los Olivos is truly a refuge, where you can grab a sofa or sit in the shade if you need a break. Roblar is a nice lunch too.

I’ll be spending a week with my family at Alisal Ranch, just south of Solvang. Looking to explore some wineries. I see plenty of tasting rooms from familiar names, particularly in Los Olivos, but I’m wondering if there are any highly recommended vineyards/wineries to visit? Beckman? Sunstone?

Tercero, Liquid Farm and Samsara are 12 feet apart in Los Olivos.

It has been many years since I was last in the area so not sure if this still applies. When I was visiting there, I didn’t find anything special about the places that were winery/vineyards. Many of them I liked. Just nothing more special about them over a tasting room.

If you could go back in time 15 or so years ago and taste with Wes at Clos Pepe, then yes, that was better. But those days are gone. Unless there is something new that I am I unaware of that comes somewhat close.

Check out Melville. Very pretty setting. Nice wines. We were in that area a few weeks back.

Brian Loring and Flying Goat in Lompoc are worth a visit as is Babcock next to Melville on Hwy 246.

Terre et Sag, young winemaker with wines in the same vein as SQN if that’s your thing.

I plan to pop into these as well as Holus Bolus next door

Thanks! I emailed and was able to schedule a tour and tasting with Chad Melville. Excited for that.
