I had my second bottle of this last night. The first one was in Kauai, so I am not not sure that any bottle of wine could compare to that one. However, this bottle of wine was an excellent pinot. There was a touch, a mild touch of spritz upon opening that quickly blew off. It had strong red fruit, mostly cherry and a little rasberry, with some earth and a lot of nutmeg and other spice. Unlike too many other 2005 pinots, it was well balanced in the mouth with good acidity that made it a good match with food. 93 points
Why oh why did you stop making pinot, Manfred? And especialy why oh why did you stop making pinot AFTER I made it to your list? ![]()
still a postcard guy but i also loved this wine, which i enjoyed once @ Rutherford Grill with a nice ‘bro’ discount. i wish i could try some older SQN PNs.
I agree this is one of the better SQN pinots. My favorite remains the Omega and Over & Out is also up there. I miss his pinots but completely agree with Manfred’s decision to focus on the Rhone varietals. He’s doing what he does best and better than anyone else IMO.
I agree with Justin, even though some of his pinots are decent to good… his Rhone Varietals are a many levels above them!
