Spring Mountain Sale of Elivette wines

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking, and hoping for. Seems like it could have been a lot worse!

Opened a 2000 tonight. Cork split but it’s drinking just fine.

Had 2000 the other night. Thought it drank well. Though I wish I stood it up for at least a few days for sediment.

Probably need to use a Durant for anything pre 2007.

Had a few of the older vintages. I thought 09, 04, 07 and 06 were drinking the best in that order. They still have a decent life ahead of them so no rush to drink now. I thought 00 was a nice wine but a decent bit of the fruit is gone so you want to consume now. 03 was probably my least favorite but still good. 03 should be consumed now also. I would not buy anymore 00 or 03.

Really looking forward to how 15-19 evolve. All solid wines that have very high ceiling.

Had the same thing happen to my 3L

Kevin’s arms and fingers are really skinny so he can reach down the sides of the cork.

I opened a 2000 Elivette tonight and it was an absolute banger. Just slow oxed it for a couple hours, and it was so lively and vibrant, dried fruit definitely still there, plenty of tertiary notes. It’s perfectly in balance and absolutely singing. Have several more Elivette vintages coming from my marathon orders, but genuinely wish I’d bought more of this one. Maybe there’s a lot of bottle variation, but this particular bottle was absolutely not past its prime.

The 2016 is awesome! With a few more years, I think the oak will further integrate and the tannins will soften. I regret not buying a case. Just fantastic wine.

The 2014 and 2016 have both been phenomenal. The 2014 is far and away my favorite, so far.

The 2013 is the only head scratcher. 2013 was average. Maybe additional cellar time is the solution to 2013 :man_shrugging: (glass half full).

Personally I love 2013…it’s a thinking wine and evolves so much over 2 days (like a great movie, it has ups and downs). Best perfume of all the Elivette I’ve had…can smell it from 4 ft away from the glass. But it does go dumb. I agree, I think it just needs cellar time, but I’ve had 3 and they have all been consistent. I loaded up on it, I find it absolutely fascinating…

I brought a bottle of the 2016 to a restaurant last month and my brother, who likes wine but isn’t a geek, said: “all red wine should taste like this.”
I agree it’s very enjoyable.

Yeah, but the problem is, he will only work on wines that he thinks are going to be Wine Spectator Wine of the Year.

Opened a 375ml of 09 and 750ml of 2014 and 2015 this weekend. 09 was my favorite but has decent bottle variation. When 09 is good, it’s really good and my favorite vintage of the 14 vintages of Elivette that I have tried. I do think 2015 has the potential to rival 09 but needs a little more time. 14 was a distant 3rd for me.

Opened a 750ml of ‘00 Elivette this weekend. Drank it over the course of two nights and the wine really changed between tastings. First night had a lot of fruit for a wine of this age and was absolutely spectacular. Second night was less fruit forward and more earthy notes were present.

Overall an excellent wine at 26-years old. Along with the ‘06 out of a magnum may be my favorite one yet. Had bought this on a whim and only regret is that I did not buy more.

If you love the ‘00, which I do, you’re in for a treat if you bought the ‘02. Similar flavor profile but just a little more vivid. It’s as if ‘00 is a slightly faded version of ‘02. Both tasting great and not at all past their prime to my taste.
