Spiral Cellars - anyone heard about this?

http://www.spiralcellars.com/us/index.html

This is either brilliant or ridiculous - I don’t know which. Has anyone heard of someone installing one of these, what they cost, how well they work, anything?

The cost is INSANE! I checked into it - it’s something like $50,000 because of the permits involved. It’s far cheaper in Europe, apparently, where the permits are not as restrictive, and the shipping of the concrete units is not driving up cost.

Insane is right! [shock.gif]

For $50K, I can store offsite until 20 years after I’m dead and still be money ahead.

But would you be able to take your guests down a spiral staircase lined with bottles of insane vino?

Didn’t think so.

The insanest thing of all would be trying to fit more than one person inside that cellar. It’s like a spiral staircase inside a phone booth. I seriously think the thing would be challenging for claustrophobes.

So much awesome torture for claustrophobes…

I wonder how many 50s and 60s era underground bomb shelters were converted into cellars. And will Fonzi still want to bring his ‘bike’? [gen_fro.gif]

I could see myself hammered one night falling down that staircase and taking bottles off the wall with me.

Looks nice but not very functional.

You could be speaking for me as well. I still think of this video whenever I see these cellars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG07DqewQN0

Votes are in: it’s “ridiculous”, by a landslide. Ludicrous price, to be sure, but Tyler’s hypothetical and Dave’s (painful) video clinched it for me.

I wouldn’t want to carry down cases and cases of wine down the stairs. No thanks.

Silly, that’s what the case carrying dwarves are for! They come WITH the package!!

There is a Zach in every box?

Mmm, Zach in the Box.
