Flying down in April for my mother’s 90th birthday. Looking for recommendations for a special restaurant.
There is a restaurant called the secret garden in the Pillars hotel that’s very good.It is only opened to hotel guests but sometimes they"ll open it up to you if you call. Can also purchase a year long admission for a price.
I’ve always enjoyed Cafe Maxx just north of Ft Lauderdale in Pompano Beach
boom. nailed it. Oliver Saucy is a great chef, very good spot for a 90 yr old as well. love the food, always good.
It is a little bit of a drive but we really like the Vienna Wine Bar in Davie. https://viennawinebar.com/
I would look to either one of these places. Mastro’s Ocean Club or the upstairs part of 15th Street Fisheries.
Maxx’s is excellent.
I have not been yet, but Dune (by Laurent Tourendel) is in Ft Lauderdale and supposed to be great. Also, Bourbon Steak (michael mina) in Aventura.
since everyone has covered the special occasion meal, for breakfast in fort lauderdale hit up top hat deli. very solid breakfast/jewish deli.
Casa De Angelo is special also.
Agree about Cafe Maxx!
Also depending on the size of your party Winewatch is an excellent choice for a party of 6 or more. Custom menu of your choice and you have the option of bringing your wine! Dm me if interested and I can hook you up.
Terrific restaurant on the Fort Lauderdale Beach is Takato. Korean Japanese.
Staying at Bahia Mar and I think I’ll try Takato for dinner tonight.
Enjoy and report back!
Ignominious start as the '15 Pierre Morey MP I schlepped from ATL was corked. But the sushi is great as is some Oze no Yukidoke sake.
Lots of places nearby on Las Olas, but one of my old favorites not too far (about 10 minute north depending on traffic) is Cafe Martarano.
I found Maxx overpriced for what it was. At around $50 or more per entree, I expected more. This comment is based on 3 visits. Service is excellent.
Going down next week. Any new recommendations?
Where exactly will you be? There are some new restaurants in that area.
I’ve been wanting to try Vitolo (Emilio’s ballato owners from NYC).
My mom lives in Plantation. She can’t travel too far. We usually go to Casa DaAngelo
The name of the restaurant does it a complete disservice, but we had an truly excellent experience at Pasta And… recently in Margate (yes - the name of the restaurant is Pasta And…). Really exceptional food and fine. Specializes in northern Italian cuisine. WIne list is extensive.
So that’s in FLL - are you willing to go to that area or do you prefer something in West broward? So many good choices if you go east.
Right now I don’t think we’re doing much. Mom in hospital. I think
We might be transferring her to hospice
