I am totally ignorant. Just booked a family vacation for June: Barcelona, Seville and Madrid. Look for suggestions to do at least one winery visit in/near one of those cities. Suggestions please…
I can’t help with wineries but just got back from Madrid and the Andalusia region (Seville, Granada, cordoba) so can certainly provide other recommendations if needed. The Andalusia region is really known for sherry so hopefully that is something of interest to you. Had lots of great sherry by the glass at various restaurants and cafes.
How are you getting from city to city? Flying I assume?
Maybe it’s because I don’t have knowledgeable interests in wines within those cities and, hence, never bothered to look for wineries to visit, but on our drive down to the southern beaches at Sitges, etc., I decided to do a slight detour and visited Familia Torres winery at Penedes suburbs of Barcelona, a 40-minute drive from downtown Barcelona.
Nice, very large, operation. Welcoming team, even as I had no appointment. Tastings of many wines were all free (5 years ago).
I drove through, and golfed a lot, between Seville and Granada during pre-pandemic late 2019. Non-sherry-producing wineries are apparently all over, but when mapped are far in-between, but are definitely there, especially around Ronda. Now, if only the 2 or 3 that I sent emails to with appointment requests responded, I may have visited them then.
We drove as well. Very easy as you noted. Having a car would certainly make it easier for winery visits so that is why I was asking. Including Barcelona in the itinerary is a bit more challenging from a driving perspective.
Priorat is very much doable as a day trip from Barcelona. You can even take the train to Falset and pick up a rental or guide there. Been there, done that.
I will PM you his name and email address. I don’t know if he’s still doing it or not. If not perhaps he can point you in the right direction. He did a good job for us.
