Any recommendations on where to stay? Let’s say between Nice and Cannes or if you have any other place you really loved.
Hotel or rental, Paul?
Rent a villa in Cannes if you can, near the Rue d’Antibes or the Old Port. Juan les Pins would be good for night clubbing but I’m not sure that’s what you’re looking for. Antibes isn’t bad but haven’t been in a while.
Charming place in an old village with a great restaurant
Another charming place. It is more modern and nicely located.
They just refurbished the hotel and restaurant - we haven’t been since, but it’s a pretty cool place. Do NOT try to drive to the front door of the hotel unless you have a Mini or Fiat 500.
We’ve usually stayed in the hills overlooking the coast - we’ve found a couple of nice places to rent in Mougins
I concur regarding Le Cagnard–it’s a lovely hotel.
Avignon is a great place to visit–it’s about a two and a half hour drive east of Nice. We stayed in nearby Villeneuve-les-Avignon at La Magnaneraie–it was a very pleasant hotel but this was about twenty years ago.
David and others, prefer rental. Should have stated that. Been to Avignon and CdP numerous times and don’t want to repeat that.
About a year-and-half ago we picked Cote d’Azur and based ourselves at Eze, a relaxed and quaint Medieval hill town that’s in-between Nice and Monte Carlo. If you want glitz, then Eze is only 15-minutes drive to either Nice or Monaco, and about 45 minutes to Cannes.
Plus, it’s only 25 minutes drive to the border in Italy (Liguria) where we did a couple of daytrips just go to the markets, have lunch and take care of our Italian food cravings.
Wine-related activities are close to zero, though. But, there are plenty of very nice French Riviera towns all around the area.
oh, and we stayed in a nice modern rental.
Thanks Ramon. Eze looks interesting.
Neither of the villas we rented in Mougins seem to be on the market any more (I still need to check on a source or two). We love the area (15-20 minutes from Cannes and Antibes, nice town and away from the crowds (mostly)). Eze is beautiful, but be prepared for busloads of tourists during the day if you stay near town-center. Vence and St-Paul de Vence are nice areas to base yourself out of as well
I found Cannes kind of boring, but Antibes much nicer. Du Cap is really amazing.
That said, enjoyed St. Tropez more than any of them.
I wouldn’t stay in St. Tropez town, but rather just outside. Villa Belrose or la reserve in ramatuelle.
+1 if you go to St Tropez, stay outside of town, darting in to get provisions at the (great) market. But, that’s a bit farther from Cannes/Nice.
