2004 Match Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Butterdragon Hill - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (5/9/2010)
Popped and poured with a big porterhouse last weekend. Intense nose of black current and blueberry fruits. Velvety on the palate, with rich notes of chocolate and blackberry that flows in layers on the palate. The finish was smooth and supple. Very nice for drinking right now. (91 pts.) -
2004 Match Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Baconbrook - USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District (5/9/2010)
Wow, this smelled great with deep red fruits and lots of dusty earthy notes, but sadly it was slightly corked and totally flat on the palate. Flawed. NR (flawed) -
2005 Match Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Butterdragon Hill - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (5/9/2010)
Popped and decanted. Different from the 2004. Much more primary, tightly wound, and restrained. Deep ruby color, with notes of red and black currants. Lots of spice, cedar, and graphite. Some bell pepper is also coming out. Juicy red fruits are quickly followed by a tight and tannic finish. This will be really good in a few years. Nice with a ribeye but too young right now.
