New here and hoping the community can help with a few recommendations!
My wife and I are members at both Alpha Omega and B Cellars in the Napa Valley. Really enjoy the majority of the B Cellars blends and single vineyard offerings and the fruit forward, often dark fruit nature of their wines. Enjoyed a sample of their 17 Missouri Hopper recently which was a bit more elegant. We also recently joined Alpha Omega (primarily for their single vineyard cabs) and have been pleased. Have had both their 2011 AO Era and 2013 Las Piedras which were both fantastic.
Wanted to see what other producers others might recommend? Open to both wines between $40-80 for more frequent enjoyment and also comparable single vineyard offerings up to $200.
Also - we don’t have a cellar, so prefer wines that are more approachable at a young age. AO is great about offering up library wines which has helped in that respect as well.
Whites: Peter Michael, Tres Perlas/Renteria Brown Ranch/Aubert/Hyde/Davis.
Cabs: Peter Michael, again, but a little ‘rounder’ when young. Robert Young in Sonoma similar quality, to my palate. The newer Dunn cabs might be to your liking, also softer on release than in the old days. Spottswoode, Berringer Reserve, and, of course, the Quivet/Myriad/Becklyn lines (they may be more fruit forward than AO.)
ACME in St Helena often sends out email offers for back vintages. They’re friendly with all the wineries, and wineries are always looking to release some back vintage stuff kinda on the sly (not necessarily “hiding it” but more so managing supply on the current release end of things to manage supply/demand). In the past few months, I’ve purchased 2014 Seavey and 2010 Colgin from them. Might be worth signing up for their mailing list.
If the $100-200 single vineyard cabs are your jam, you probably would also like their “Kahuna club” which is basically nothing but under the radar single vineyard cabs from Napa. Being in that also gets you access to some of the more allocated offerings (Colgin, Dalla Valle, Harlan, Scarecrow, Abreu, Eisele and Kongsgaard offers have all come my way this Spring off the top of my head). Would love to refer you as we both get some free juice if so!
I did blind tasting AO napa vs Nickel & Nickel single vineyard a few times and Nickel & Nickel came out on top. Similar price point.
If you want single vineyard beckstoffer whatever, try Amici. Their wines in the $40-80 are very tasty and they also have those bechstoffer single vineyard that are quite good.
Cliff Lede is another one. I thought their single vineyard is outstanding and their regular bottles are good as well.
