Shipping wine to UK from US

A colleague and friend in London was kind enough to invite me to his home to dine with his family last night. Since I’ve had some involvement in CA wine and they are unfamiliar (or have haunting memories of Paul Masson and the like), I’d like to send them 2-3 bottles for education/gratitude.

I’d be shipping to London from New York. I will ship overnight (I’m guessing there’s no smart alternative anyway) - can anyone recommend the best carrier to do so? Approx. cost for three bottles? Would I pay any custom duties, and does anyone know how I’d compute (I assume based on bottle value)?

Someone has to pay customs, taxes, etc.

We use Fedex.

Erik, I would strongly suggest buying from a UK merchant and having them delivered direct, a very easy process. These wines aren’t common here but they do exist-winesearcher is your friend.

I know for a fact these wines aren’t available in the UK so I will suck it up and pay the freight.
