Seattle Area Restaurant Recommendations

Almost forgot Cafe Sulliman, probably my favorite newish spot. Natural leaning list but amazing middle eastern food.

They can use the PR, too… Eggslut covered up the windows and made Melrose Market look like round 47 of construction over there.

Went to Cafe Sulliman last night after the reminder here.

The food is very good, the cod was one of the better dishes that I have had in Seattle.

I’m eating in Seattle only about a dozen times per year now, but the most interesting meal, meaning that in a good way,I had in Seattle in the last year was Cafe Flora. Perhaps because it exceeded my expectations, as my daughter picked this and, to my horror, I realized it was vegetarian. But my table loved it. They were also very casual about corkage and the array of northern Rhone whites I brought.

Just here for the weekend and had great meals at Spinasse, Kobuta & Ookami, and Cafe Munir.

I live in Florida and was heading to Napa for a conference and decided to spend a few days in Seattle beforehand as I had not been there in 30 years and my wife had never been. We really enjoyed exploring Bainbridge Island . We also went to Spinasse based on recommendations in this thread. We had a great meal. Even my wife, who is a tough critic, kept on talking about how good it was. Had a bottle of Valdovato Roero Nebbiolo- Cascina Fornace. I had never heard of it but it was 2016- and reasonably priced. Very good and paired well with the various pasta dishes that we sampled.

I love Spinasse. I need to get back there soon.

Not really a wine spot, but Bar Del Corso is consistently very good.

in the Beacon Hill area, I can highly recommend both Bar Del Corso and Musang (our first visit to Musang earlier this week was fantastic!)

Hit Off Alley last night. Feels like they’re struggling a bit - wine list was in shambles, with pricing at 4x+ for natural wines. The list was hand-written with 80% of the bottles crossed out.

The food was excellent and reminded me quite a bit of a classic French bistro, with smaller, tapas-style plates. The chalkboard menu was light on proteins to start, and the only red meat (wild boar) was sold out at 5:30. Rabbit kidneys on toast were fantastic, as was a dollop of whipped pork fat that came with the charcuterie platter.

All in all, I’m not sure this would be a prime destination if I was in town for two nights. Feels like they’re having some challenges, and there wasn’t much foot traffic, which is surprising/sad.

One of my favorite wine bars, period. Great brief visit tonight, with two exciting specials on the menu: Whitefish & Dungeness Crab rilettes, and steak Tatar. I asked for pairing recommendations, and went with 2022 Michel Laroche Petit Chablis as well as a 2021 Domaine Chignard Fleurie Les Moriers. Spot on.

preface: all 4 are worth visiting.

Hamdi - excellent. Katrina is super friendly, worked at Singlethread with her husband who is the chef at hamdi now.

Atoma - excellent - food, cocktails, wine list, and byob allowed

Lark - quite good, but for me not as good as the two above.

Joule - it’s good.. but i would go a few other places in the area before Joule. if u do go, get the short rib.

We got there twenty five minutes before open, first at the door.

It’s our son’s favorite joint.
