For the wine theme, we were thinking of doing a deep dive on Spanish wines, a couple of sparkling, a couple of whites, followed by reds and finishing with sherry. I have Mariano down for a sherry. Let me know what else people would like to bring.
Also for the meal, Raul will prepare paella campesina with chorizo chicken thighs and piquillo peppers as well as stuffed dates. It would be great if people could bring salad, tapas, and dessert. Let me know with these as well.
Totally bummed to be missing this with you awesome winos. But I do have something to ponder for all of you. Laurie and I went to Maass in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday. On the beach in the Four Seasons hotel. Just got a Michelin star. Pretty killer. But we went on Wednesday since that night is…wait for it… NO CORKAGE FEE!!! Brought multiple bottles and did not pay a cent for then to open and pour them. Made a Michelin Star dinner pretty reasonable (you can get away there for $100 to $125 a person). Already asked the Somm, who spent some time at our table, about bringing in a a group of 14 to 20 wine lunatics on a Wednesday night and they are all good! Independently you all should try it on a Wednesday night while this deal lasts but moving forward, I think that will be looking to do that when Laurie and I are back. Drink well my friends.
We went there last year for Valentine’s Day and brought our own bottle. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely be down to do a wine dinner there. Didn’t know about their no corkage Wednesdays. We should definitely add Maass to the list.
Yep, have been to MAASS many times. The part that received the star is the chef’s counter specifically (we’ve only been to the counter), but the restaurant is still very good I have no doubts!
We’re going to their sister restaurant in Florida (Omo) in winter park in a month and very much looking forward to that.
Hi all. Unfortunately, it sounds like we’ll have to postpone the paella dinner. Our gracious host has an unforeseen conflict and will be traveling to the southern hemisphere.
Let’s try to get another event scheduled on the calendar. I’ll come back over the weekend to rally the troops but wanted to pass this along.
