Saracina Vineyards (Mendocino)

Saracina’s been on my list of places I’ve been wanting to try for years but just haven’t made enough effort to do so until today.

The whole lineup I tasted was impressive. Every wine was poised with really lovely acidity and tension. No jammy flabby monsters here.

The 2020 unoaked chardonnay for $20 was excellent. Bright acidity, understated stone fruit, and a pretty touch of floral musque character. Very nicely done for the price. Rose of grenache, $20 as well, was mouth-watering, crisp, and elegant.

There was an old vine SB, a properly-behaved malbec, an Anderson valley pinot noir showing it’s beautiful pennyroyal notes, and a nice zin and cab. All are at or under $50 and absolutely pleasurable, but those $20 wines are stunners at that price point. This is not a large production winery.

If you’re on your way to Anderson Valley or Navarro for some QPR’s, check this place out. 10/10 would go visit them again.

I liked the SB when it was first released back in 2000 (?) and brought it into Dean & Deluca. I just checked and they haven’t crossed my desk since.

Winemaker is a friend of mine. The AV Pinot and Chard came from my old job.
