I’m curious, now that I see where you make wine, if your Arinto source is Pierce Ranch as well? If not, if not it would be cool to know there are other adventurous/innovative vineyard owners out there.

It is indeed Pierce Ranch - I also make Verdelho, Albarino, and Tempranillo from there. TTB wouldn’t let me put Arinto on the label, so I named it “Felicidade” - Portuguese for joy, bliss and happiness!

First BD for me.

Am I crazy that this is the same vineyard? If so, is the style today the same as the older stuff?

This is indeed the same vineyard for the “Grand Cru” Cabernet pack we are offering. The vineyard was planted in 1972. We also have the very rare Bates Ranch Cabernet Franc available from 2017 as well. And yes, made in the same style - old world, not high alcohol, no jammy character, made for aging.
The other, more “mainstream” Cab Sauv we have on offer is the Luchessi Vineyard. But it is also in this old world style. Feel free to email me if you want more info about the Bates Ranch options.

Yeah don’t get me started about what the TTB officially recognizes at varieties! The list includes crazy hybrid stuff no one has made for 50 years yet varieties that are planted widely in Europe aren’t able to be approved because they are no on “the list”. I bet these are folks who don’t drink wine at all sitting behind some desk. You know they don’t drink wine because how could you be that into stupid details of antiquated rules if you were enjoying life with a good glass of wine now and then!

Amen!

A special thank you shout out to the likes of @MoniqueHuston, @DirkN and @Adam_Frisch for purchasing our wines during this BD madness. It always means a lot to me when folks in the industry take the time and interest to explore our wines. Apologies if I missed any purchasers who I don’t happen to know are wine business folks…

Thanks, in for a Grand Cru and a 4 sample pack. That 1985 is my fathers, I’ve stored his cellar since my parents retire and downsized a couple of years ago - I have yet to enjoy any of your wines before.

That 1985 vintage is still a remarkably big wine and if you pour it blind to someone they will think it is younger by decades. A drought year with small berries and lot of concentration. Thank you SO much for your purchases and I hope you enjoy them.

Thank you Jeff. One of my friends and customers @J_Patrick_Lynch loves your wines and sends me bottles once in awhile, so I know it’s good juice! I think I need to pay him back a few bottles! :+1:

@J_Patrick_Lynch and one other Chicagoan are the reasons I even knew about Berserkers. So I can heartily endorse paying him back!

And I really look forward to trying your Mission Grape pack that I picked up. I will be using some of them as an admittedly rather evil entry into our regular Friday blind wine tastings with staff.

Perfect, thanks! It’s a great wine to blind people on because it’s confusing. Now after all these years with Mission, I can spot it a mile away, but it’s a perfect foil for the WSET crowd!

Tasted through some of your lineup at the space in Santa Cruz with Berserker Sean Smith a while back. Love what you’re doing with your Portuguese variety program. Definitely ordering a couple packs for my swollen cellar.

Always enjoy our SCMV wines. Castelao has become a favorite!

In for 2 SCM 4 packs and the Grand Cru Cabernet 2 pack! Looking forward to trying the Durif and Grand Cru cabs! Thanks, Jeff!

Thanks so much for your support Cris and I’m happy to hear you had a good experience when you visited.

I’ve spent way :grimacing: too much today but I’m telling myself this is my absolute last BD16 purchase–in for the Quinta Cruz 4-pack.

Thank you for your continued support Sheila. We actually just bottled the 2022 Castelao so that will be showing up in a Wine Club release before too long.
