Thanks Tegan, it’s a no win situation for you for sure. Whenever you have some free time, jump in on any wine topic. Very much enjoy your perspective.

Not specific to sand lands but I presume more releases are done because the winery believes it will increase sales (eg I may limit myself to a case in any release and buy less multiples etc).
I pick up a local producer at Elite Shipping in Lodi. But I assume storage and shipping is better for Tegan through who he’s currently utilizing.
Thanks Tegan for weighing in, for your great work, your great wines, and for covering a portion of the shipping!
Not to beat a dead horse, I did look at the shipping cost for 3 bottles: $32, 4 bottles $42, but a case is only $52.
I just need to order more wine to reduce the cost per bottle!
I’d also like the option to accrue a case over multiple releases and ship only full cases given the cost efficiency there.
Anybody received an email from Jenn the last two days? My wish list items didn’t get reflected as I’d asked and I haven’t heard back, which is strange since she’s usually super quick at responding.
What do you mean reflected?
I mean that the allocation didn’t offer me wish lists for what I wanted, I asked her to adjust my wish list, and that appears to have never happened and now I am not getting any response after the wish list emails went out. Being limited to a single wish list bottle is rather annoying as I want at least 3 of anything I buy unless it’s something just to try.
Most of a week later and I still haven’t gotten a reply. Has anybody else heard from Jenn or anybody at Sandlands?
I’m not sure what support you’re hoping for here. Sandlands is a small operation making tiny quantities of wine. Most of us would love more, but are thankful for what we get, rather than being “annoyed” about wish list requests.
All I’m hoping for here is confirmation of whether anybody has heard back from Jenn or anybody else at the orders@sandlands email address.
I understand they are a small producer and giving small allocations to try to get the wine to many people. I do not understand limiting wish list requests so tightly. ymmv.
I’m getting my most recent allocation this week and I’m pretty excited about it, especially looking forward to the Chenin. On the subject of wine shipping costs, I run an online wine retail business and it’s definitely the worst part of the job. I offer local pickup and also will hold until a whole case is filled but I feel Tegan’s pain and end up eating a lot of shipping costs myself.
They’re wish list because there probably isn’t going to be much or any left over after customers take their allocations.
And they can give you a drag down menu showing any number for your wish list, but it’s a disservice to the customer if there is probably going to be 0 of 1 available to you.
Just a random Sandlands comment but went to Cotogna in SF recently (next door sister restaurant to 3 Michelin star Quince) and they are ALL IN on Sandlands. It was an entire page of the wine list, multiple vintages of seemingly every wine they make. We ended up with italian wine because I know almost nothing about it so always snag the opportunity for a som to point me in the right direction, but he was notably excited and when I mentioned all the Sandlands on the list.
anyone grabbing anything form the release tomorrow? being on the heels of BD may force a pass
I’ll definitely be getting some Trousseau and Mataro, at least. Also purchased too much recently but these wines are so good and fairly priced they are hard to pass up.
Has anyone ever skipped a release, and if so, did you still continue to get allocations in the future?
I doubt I’ll ever want to skip, maybe make a smaller order this time, but I’m curious anyway.
That Assyrtiko is also stunning.
But I simply cannot live without the Trousseau,
I am a sporadic buyer and while the quantity offered may vary (I have no idea), as far as I can tell I am still offered wine every release.
