Just had the 2022 for the first time. Just a wonderful wine. I’ve never held on to these to see if they age and for good reason. These drink absolutely lovely out of the gate and I don’t need much more, especially for the price.

They have never used any Gamay to my knowledge. In 2021 specifically they had a really bad frost in one of their Trousseau vineyards which would have led to a really thin wine so they added a bit of Pinot Noir in 2021. Otherwise the wine has been 100% Trousseau from Luchsinger Vineyard and Las Cimas Vineyard. It’s still one of the lightest most ethereal red wines produced domestically. It almost looks like a skin contact white in the glass. I would consider taking another crack at it - you might be surprised

To my palate this wine can also age. The 2012 was drinking great in 2021.

I drank my first 2024 Trousseau this weekend. Could almost pass for a rose. I can’t remember if other vintages were this pale. I like these more each year. Delicious antidote to this swamp weather!
Had a 2023 yesterday. Not as pale but I’m good with whatever color because it is so damn good. I have a few 2024s in the cellar and I’ll need to try one soon.

I think all the Sandlands trousseau are exceptional. The only caveat is I don’t think they’re as good if you hold them more than a couple years. To me, the fresh, crisp crunchy edge in the wine’s youth is best. As it gets a little softer and rounder, I don’t think it’s as good .

I do disagree. I have loved the Sandlands (and Arnot-Roberts) Trousseau with several years of age on them.
Always the first bottle I pack when we head down to The Keys.
Do you think it’s different than young and you like the evolution? Or do you feel like it kind of holds to the way it is in youth?

I have a 2019 lurking, I’ll give it a shot soon and post here.
I am currently on to the 2019 as well. I’m sure that there could be better/different/other experiences of these wines, but I’ve settled in to having the reds around this age and really like the outcomes.
For me the Trousseau does well with less time as well, so I may grab a 2022 as well to try alongside a 2019.
In other Sandlands news, the Carignan and CC Red Table 2019 are rocking recently!

I’ve gotten some stick for drinking the 2024s this early, but they are too excellent not to pop. Reminds me of L’Anglore’s Tavel, albeit with less chocolate and spice, and more of a fresher, defined crunchy red fruit characteristic. Paired one with a tuna and watermelon aguachile for a dinner party - real winner.

I agree! I think they are absolutely delicious young and I too prefer them that way. Still very enjoyable with a few years on them though but I feel they evolve rather quickly compared to some other varietals
