San Francisco Offline Dinner 3/14/12 - Confirmed

Frisco.

Frisco Frisco Frisco.

I’m interested if there is space.

Oh yeah, that too. newhere

I’m new here, I just call it “The City” [smileyvault-ban.gif]

That will do just fine Tony. [thumbs-up.gif]

Just got the thumbs down though from the s/o. Have fun all.

If the date is 3/14 please add 2 for me to the list (or waitlist). Thanks.

  • Joel

I prefer in the city or peninsula versus further North.

Bella Trattoria looks okay.
Chouquet’s, Indigo, and Jasper’s Corner Tap are other free corkage options

+1

OP was updated to reflect the reservation for 12 @ Bella Trattoria at 6pm. and the confirmed 12 winos

Now that we have a location and a time, anyone else care to recommend a theme?

Just some random suggestions on theme (no particular order):

  • Balanced CA wines (a la Eric Asimov)
  • Syrah from all over the world
  • 2008 vs. 2009 Burgundy
  • Old world and New World Pinot Brown Bag challenge
  • US Rhone - Old World Southern Rhone
  • Italian

Or we can just bring some good wine, just make sure we have a good mix to go with the food (and that means white wines as well). newhere

By the way, what kind of free corkage were you guys able to work out with the restaurant? I looked it up and their official policy is that free corkage Mon-Wed for the “first” bottle only, I am pretty sure we will be opening more than one bottle… [wink.gif]

Please add me to the waitlist in case anyone needs to drop out.

I have heard two suggestions for Old vs new world Rhones. They are near and dear to my heart because our mantra is old world wines produced with California fruit.

Anyone against a Rhone Shootout?

@david sasaki - your the first one on the waitlist.

-d

That sounds great to me. I don’t often get to compare many rhones together.

OP is updated the theme is OW/NW Rhone Shootout.

Please update the thread with what you plan to bring and I will keep the OP updated.

I will bring a new world red - 2009 Dacalier Deux Barriques and an old world Rhone White - TBD

I’m going to bring a '98 CdP, but I haven’t decided on which one yet.

My candidates:

  • La Boheme Syrah Que Syrah Vineyard

  • Arnot-Roberts Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard

  • Carlisle Two Acres

  • might source an older CdP of market.

  • might bring a non-theme white/bubbly as too much red can be tiring, also might need a white with the food.

Precisely why I am bringing an OW Rhone white. I wanted to make sure we had atleast one there. And My vote is for he Carlisle. I prefer lower ABV wines and although I have never had a Carlisle, I hear they are nice examples without hitting that ABV in the high 14s and even 15s

I’ll bring a red from the southern rhone.

I need to bow out of this. I’ve got a bunch of state tax returns due on 3/15 and the person helping me with them just informed me they need 3/15 off for a medical procedure…GREAT.

Sorry to miss this.

Sorry to miss you Tony, that opens up a spot on the waiting list.

I am not sure if we have met already or not, but I suppose it is in our future given our locale and propensity to embibe. [cheers.gif]
