My job is sending me to San Diego next week and it will be my first time there. Are there any must visit restaurant recs that also have a focus on great wine selection. I’m sure there are tons. I prefer good scenery, local, and seafood is a must! ![]()
Cafe Chloe is a wine bar in the Gaslamp district that does all three meals well, especially breakfast/brunch.
I’ve gotten some good recs from a food blog called Local Wally’s.

Sweet! Thanks. I’ll actually be staying in the Gaslamp district so that is perfect.
http://www.winevaultbistro.com/ this place is amazing, not really a restaurant per say but they have many wine pairing events. To top it off it is the best bargain I have ever seen most nights. I have only been once but it was great, something like 3 courses of very good food and wine for $30!! They also sell the wine that they serve (plus others) for next to nothing. Not sure how they keep the lights on but I sure wish I lived closer, I would be a local. Check it out. Nice setting too.
+1. The Wine Vault is awesome. My overall favorite restaurant in San Diego (by some margin) is Georges at the Cove – both the fancier downstairs dining room and the excellent casual rooftop terrace. It has brilliant views too.
Gaslamp is loaded with places, fun times. Like Bourbon Street without the felony aspect.
I will 2nd or 3rd winevault. On Saturdays they have 5 courses for $30 and paired up with wines for $20. Chris is quite good at pairing wines with food.
I like Cafe Chloe, sometimes you have to wait for a table as the place is tiny. George’s is great too, lunch upstairs, and dinner downstairs.
For high end dining, I would suggest Addison at Grande Del Mar (about 40min from Gaslamp). Great food (4 courses $98), great wine list, probably the best in San Diego. Another one is the Sky Room at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla (30min). It has fantastic views, and the food is very good (7 courses for $95).
If you want amazing views of the city, go to Bertrand at Mister A’s on Laurel Street. You can just about hold out your hand and touch the planes coming in at Lindbergh Field.
PS. Special mention to Starlite, about 1 mile south of winevault. Great food, and great cocktails.
It sounds like if I CAN’T find good wine and food their I should get my head screwed on. This is a great start.
