We are looking unlikely for dinner. Have some other things going on that evening
How is attendance looking?
I donāt think it has changed much. We do have some more wine folks instead of spouses. My wife is a maybe and very likely may miss with a busy kids schedule. So our male-female ratio and wine-nonwine geek ratio looks skewed.
The large table seats 14 comfortably so I think we are ok with 12-14ish we have. Will definitely have enough wine to go around.
John has all the food details.
Current confirmed:
- M Chang, +1
- Jdurham +1?
- JVizuete + Albert
- Nick Christie
- JThomas +Don
- Max Mackinnon + (Carenn coming?)
- A.Z.Sullivan +1
We are inside two weeks and Iām getting very excited for this event. A couple of important questions and updates:
-
What time is everyone planning to arrive? My preference would be to start as early as folks are able to make it.
-
We are going to update the venue for this lunch to Petit Coquin. The advantage of this will be both privacy and access to the kitchen (over having it catered) which I think will make the meal nicer. We will plan to uber over to our club (Art of Cellaring SA) after lunch at about 3pm and take any leftover wine with us.
-
Are there any food allergies or restrictions we can be aware of and plan for? Iām working on the menu with Max. It will be a prix fixe around $100/person. I would describe his food is classic french bistro.
Let me know what yāall think. We will have a couple local collectors join us. Looking like 10-12 people total which should be perfect.
We should be able to be there by 1 assuming no delays with our flight etc. no allergies
Gonna bring a blind too.
Wines:
2017 Rousseau Beze
2007 Gros Frere Richebourg
2007 Anne Gros Richebourg
2014 PYCM Chassagne 1er Champs Gains

Weāll see how the other out of townersā schedules are, but rough outline of the schedule could be:
Petite Coquin (1012 S Presa St, San Antonio, TX 78210)
Noon-1: greetings and small bites
1-3? Lunch (John will know, but I think we need to be out of restaurant by 3?)
TRAVEL BREAK
3-? Art of Cellaring lounge (2810 N Flores St suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78212)
For those staying late Outlaw Kitchen is walkable from AoC and allows corkage (I think itās $25 per) but glassware is an issue there.
One question would be, do we want to break up the flights between the 2 sites? For the locals this could keep us from lugging bottles to lunch and then back to the lounge.
Iām ok with whatever you guys want to do, but probably wonāt be able to bring stems. I think breaking up the flights wouldnāt be the worst idea. I think our plan is to chill at AOC until it organically breaks up and then try to explore the riverwalk area a bit as itās our only night in town.
K. Letās see others input
I have a show to catch in the Pearl around 6:30 so that will end my wine night
Only 1 night in SA, would recommend the Pearl end of the Riverwalk over the downtown area. More unique cultureābut thereās good sides to both. Unless you really want to see the Alamo
Yes, we should definitely split off flights/wines
.
Weāll want to leave bottles to open, rest & take some air. Particularly the younger wines, Iād think.
Thanks for the maps & organization. I like this idea of better lunch & a quick pause to gather & relocate.
this is a good plan
Great, thanks for the feedback. This way youāll get to have the best of both worlds, I think. Iām glad a break is welcomed. Joshās schedule outline is perfect. Iād say we need to be out of the restaurant by 3:30, but that should be no problem. Letās aim for a 1-3pm lunch and please feel welcome to come in earlier if youāre in town. You can linger at AOC for as long as you would like. Happy to suggest more places for dinner nearby as well. Outlaw is a great option that is quaint, delicious and walkable. A few more details:
Glassware: PC has Spiegelau universal stems, enough for everyone to have 2-3. Iāll bring a few extra grassl cru to share. AOC has stems of its own (Glasvin). No worries if you arenāt able to bring stems, but of course the more the merrier.
As far as splitting the wines/flights up by location, Iāll defer to the group on how to do it. Selfishly, since I need to jet a little after 4pm, Iād vote to open wines earlier and leave in bottle the ones that need to breathe, and bring those over to AOC for phase 2. Iāll post the menu when we settle it and yāall can decide. Gonna be fun!!
All efforts the locals can make to bring extra stems will be appreciated ![]()
I donāt think I can get mine on the flight without paying a substantial carry-on penalty. So, the more that other can help, the better.
Iāll have 2 extra Grassl Cru for sure.
Itās really just at PC. Their glasses are fine just not tip top. AoC is all Glasvin all shapes and sizes, and while not unlimited, should be plenty.
Looks like a great event. Unfortunately for me, my Burg holdings are relatively weak and there is not a great local source to fill for the event. No need to say it, but enjoy the event and SA!
Popping back in just to assess whether there is any chance I can make it. What days are you doing where?
Just Saturday may 16 in SA. I am guessing weāre just going to do wine stuff on Saturday and just go to the conference and eat bbq for the rest of the time Iām in Austin but if anyone is in Austin and wants to open bottles lmk before next wknd.
Hey Ryan, this is just for a long lunch with some great burgs and hang at AOCSA afterwards. Would absolutely LOVE to have you join. LMK if you can make it. John
John, this has become a big label event, but if I recall you are rather deep in other regions. I bet one you could work out a swap with one of the others (including me) that are deeper in burgundy if you like.
I agree with this - there will be a lot of great reds on the table. I think a great Champagne to start the day, or a swap, as Josh suggested would be easy. Weād love to have you!
Just for the recordā¦I have been following alongā¦but the trip I was planning on dovetailing into this event actually got pushed up and Iām already home here in Arlington so Iām officially out. You guys have fun.
