& samhoud|places

We had a fabulous lunch at the two Michelin stars awarded restaurant & samhoud|places. Seated in the private dining area on the second floor with a stunning view on the oldest part of Amsterdam. Chef de cuisine Dennis Huwaë masterfully blends classic with modern dishes and the very competent sommelier Yoshiko van Dobben did the wine pairings.

Langoustine

  • 2009 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Rosé de Saignée Creux d’Enfer - France, Champagne, Côte des Bars (Aube, Champagne
The 2009 Roses de Jeanne Rosé Creux d’Enfer (100% Pinot Noir) is rich and loaded with ripe red fruit, fabulous balance and a very fine mousse. An exotic and complex wine! (92 pts.)
  • 2001 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
A more evolved yellow color here, with good structure and exceptional density of fruit. With some ripe apricot and orange peel flavours (botrytis?) breaking through. (91 pts.)

Tarbot

  • 2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
A racy mineral style, very precise with a great sense of tension and stoniness. Starting quietly in the mouth, than exploding with multi-layered stony fruit on the long refined finish. Wow! (94 pts.)
  • 2009 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
From the upper part Les Charmes-Dessus this is a rich, approachable wine, rounded with ripe fruit and hazelnut flavours. Very Meursault and Charming! (92 pts.)

Lobster

  • 2012 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
This wine has huge concentration, intensity and richness of flavour, more about weight and power rather than elegance. A powerful Batard! (93 pts.)
  • 2010 Domaine Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
This Chevalier was characterised by dense citrus on the nose and palate with strong polished acidity. Now lacking the intense minerality which is typical of a great Chevalier. (92 pts.)

Sweet bread

  • 2010 Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
This monopole shows a more firm style of Volnay, with a more tannic structure underpinning the fruit. Exceptional, robust and complex now! Needs time …. (92 pts.)
  • 2006 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Light in color with sumptuous red fruit and seductive medium concentration. An attractive bottle, though not a first division grand cru. (91 pts.)

Waygu A4.

  • 2008 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
This CSJ had fabulous delicate fruit full of subtle detail and impressive terroir precision. A complete and sublime wine with refined structure and complexity. Beautiful, even at this early stage. (93 pts.)
  • 2006 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
This CSD was showing dark concentrated fruit and some aromatic wildness, impressive with strong bone structure for the long term. Needs time … (93 pts.)
  • 1967 Marey-Monge Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Lovely structure underneath but it’s scalped and flat from the cork taint …. NR (flawed)
  • 1975 Château Montrose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
A replacement for the RSV. This is a mature, complex and balanced wine with black fruit, leather and tobacco flavors. Rich, with outstanding concentration, capable of lasting at least another decade or more. (92 pts.)

Dessert

  • 2009 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Beerenauslese - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
Medium orange color. Expressive aromas and flavors of dense apricot and orange peel, with solid concentration on the powerful finish. (92 pts.)
  • 2006 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Medium yellow color. Very expressive aromas and flavours of peach, lime and grapefruit, with extraordinary refinement and length. Delicious! (93 pts.)
