Salmon Filets and Volnay

Last night for dinner we had wild Alaskan King salmon filets with our second meal of Brussels Sprouts off the stalk (cooked as before, but with Summer Savory instead of marjoram). Wine was a lovely, but still quite primary, 2002 Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Taillepieds - rich red fruits, mostly primary fruit, ok acidity, and a long red fruit finish. We always enjoy Volnays with salmon. Music was Mozart’s four horn concerti and his piano & winds quintet, nicely played by Dennis Brain and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Herbert von Karajan. The quintet was played by the Dennis Brain Wind Ensemble.

Then for dessert we had three soft cheeses, Old Chatham Sheep’s Milk Camembert, Affinois Goat Brie, and Crave les Freres Farmstead; with TJ’s Jumbo Raisin Medley and Whole Foods Deluxe Mixed Nuts. Accompanying wine was a rich, fruity 1986 Chateau Montelena Estate Zinfandel - rich dark berry fruit, ok acidity, & resolved tannins, with a medium long berry fruit finish.
