Anyone have a few casual/mid places they like? Will be there for a few days next week. In or around Saint-Tropez.
merci!

bump - anyone?
If you can, shop at the local farmer’s market in the Old Town and cook at home, most of the places in St Tropez are over-priced and not worth it. However, there was a great pizza take-out place in the center of the city but I can’t recall the name. One of my best memories of my trip there was a mushroom and sausage pizza with 1995 La Tache. Yummo! ![]()
staying in a hotel, no kitchen. chilling all day by the beach. just looking for solid casual place. going to Roanne and Paris for real food. ![]()
I was about to echo what Michel said; cook at home. There is a pizza place in the center of town that is pretty good. (Remember that pizza with La Tache, Michel?) Otherwise, I’m not impressed.
so yeah, the food isn’t great in St. Tropez, but it’s far from bad. Italian is actually the way to go based on a few data points. There’s a little italian place off an alley on rue citadel in the old town that is run by italians and the menu is in italian and all the patrons are italian! funny how that works out. i live near curry hill here in NYC and it’s all indian people eating in the indian restaurants. i never understood that. anyway, solid place with a great list of QPR regional whites and reds from italy. go figure. pastas made in house, etc.
on the higher end, the les palmiers beach club has a truly astounding kitchen for a beach club – the food is about 400% better than it needs to be. i was shocked. somewhat secluded, great service. i ordered simply thinking that was the way to go and was very impressed - a linguine with various seafood was perfectly cooked, briny, al dente with just the right amount of red heat. easily as good as some of the top pastas i’ve had in NYC and Rome – seriously. wife’s roasted bresse chicken with spring veg, again, could have come out of the Gramercy Tavern kitchen – but better chicken! (why are French chickens so effin good??). And of course, the setting can’t be beat. Wash all of this down with a few bottles of cold local rose and some tart tropezziene and you’re in heaven. lots of angels on the beach too!
