Rudius 2012 Napa Cabernet Knockmore

As soon as the cork came out this was a winner. Beautiful bouquet of red currant, coffee and black olive. Rich, almost plush on first sip, it was impeccably balanced, tannins and structure in place but not obtrusive. Overall this is a wine to ponder for its depth and character, as we’ll as a delight to drink. It’s ready to go, but has 5-10 years left. Wish I had more. I met Jeff Ames, the owner/winemaker once a decade or so ago. He was a very thoughtful and friendly and I have tried to follow his wines over the years. Now that he seems primarily to be making Tor wines, he’s moved out of my price range, and good for him. The few Tor cabernets I have had were very special wines with the same depth and character.
