Roy is taking on his third Vineyard source, the famous Bonny’s Vineyard, in the heart of Oakville!! Silver Oak made same great wines, and quite unique, from that vineyard back in the day…I still have a lone bottle left of the 1991. Remember a good amount a green herbalness in those wines? Wonder if Roy can give us a little more info on what flavor profiles those vines are producing now a days? Hope he makes a single vineyard bottling out of it! Congrats!
I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with the fruit there. Great people to work with. I finally have enough fruit now to expand a bit. Wish me luck!
Would be a nice goal. As likely or more is I will start making an $85 Cab with barrels that are not quite up to par for my Roy Piper, instead of bulking them out. I have bulked off 35% of all the wine I’ve ever made! I see what others are putting that juice into and selling it for maybe it’s time to make a second wine.
I have been so not paying attention to Napa cab the last 10 years or so, but this made me sit up and take notice. And go to Roy’s site to sign up. Don’t tell my Bordeaux buddies, but I liked SO’s Bonnies Vineyard, and surprised some folks with it a couple of times in blind tastings. It would be even better with more judicious oak treatment.
