Rousseau CSJ 01 or 08 ?

Got an offer on the 01. The Rousseau CSJ is one of the wines i want to experience in the next few years. If priced the same which one do you recommend ? I see some mixed notes for both on CT. I’m sure I’d be drinking the 01 before the 08 but which do you think has the best potential ?

Cheers

how old are you and at what age (for the wine) do you want to drink it? What is provenance of the older bottle? Would let those factors decide.

Had the 2008 just recently and it was simply fantastic.

If you are looking for something to drink right now, the 01 was stellar a month ago. Totally open for business.

Both excellent wines. '01 is drinking well now and should continue for next 10 years. '08 is a bit shut down. Will re-emerge in 5-6 years.

As, Alan states provenance matters most with older vintages.

Work overtime this week, buy both.

47 now and think would drink the 01 between now and the next few years and the 08 probably 5+ years out. Getting both is an option. Priced around $350 per though and could get many GC’s for less. Leaning towards the 01 so i could get some perspective earlier on CSJ and is it worth it to me to buy some newer vintages.

I like the CSJ, and always buy it every year, and both of these are good wines, no doubt, but put me in the camp of there are better value for money wines out there.

I remember I had the '08 along side an '09 Chevillon Vaucrains, I actually like the Chevillon more for drinking now, and it is great value at a third the price…

Prices have shot up in recent vintages but Rousseau Ruchottes used to be the real bargain for me…lovely wine.

That said 01 CSJ was delicious last time I had it. 2000 showing very well too and probably a bit cheaper.

I’ve had the pleasure of drinking the '01 three or four times. The last occasion was in 2010, and it was delicious, though, at that time, I thought it needed another five-to-eight years to be great. Nevertheless, I think the '01 could now give someone a good sense of the vineyard and producer.

I’ve never had the '08.

Waited to long on pulling the trigger on the 01 and the source sold out. Instead of getting the 08 I’m going to get a couple of bottles of 08 Bachelet Les Corbeaux for the same cost.
