Rome Restaurants

Traveling to Italy for the first time in a couple weeks (Rome and Florence). I heard we should make reservations for restaurants as it can get busy. Any recommendations for restaurants?

We’re going in a few weeks with our adult kids so reservations are a must for us but still recommended if it’s just you and a partner. Here’s our lineup:

https://salumeriaroscioli.com/en- Board favorite as well as everyone else. Usually needs to be booked well ahead. Take a look and see if you can get a late lunch or dinner seating. Also worth stopping by and chatting with staff day of to see if you can snag a cancellation

https://rimessaroscioli.com/- offshoot of the same family. Have heard great things about their wine dinners. Good option if you can’t get into Salumeria

https://www.dafrancesco.it/en/osteria-da-francesco-roma/- one of the classics. there is a recent thread from Mike P. Very classic Roman Osteria with a deep wine list. We’re heading here for our final night.

https://www.anticofornoroscioli.it/- also owned by Roscioli group. We always stop here for Mortadella Panni. Classic Roman square pizza as well. great for a quick cheap lunch or snack.

https://www.collineemiliane.com/- if you’ve had your fill of the Roman classics and want something different. This is a great spot to explore Emilia Romagna. We’re eating here one night.

Bit outside of town this spot looks great and we’re going to try and visit

Plenty of other great options in Rome. Will post on Florence in a separate post.

Although the wine list isn’t as extensive as it once was, we has a wonderful meal in Florence at the Cantina back in February. FYI - We much prefer the Cantina to the Osteria (next door).

Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina

Also - Our Airbnb was steps away from a wonder spot - Enoteca Bellini. Very small and lovely local wine bar. We were the only non-locals the two times we went for pre-dinner drinks. Highly recommended.

Not a restaurant recommendation, but get a coffee granita at Tazza d’Oro!

Thank you all for the recommendations. Very helpful. We’ll be sure to report back to the thread after our trip.

For Rome i also reccomend Armando al Pantheon, Santo Palato and Cesare al casaletto

Pizzeria da Remo — possibly the best pizza I’ve ever had.

Couple of other suggestions -

Cecchino dal 1887 in Testaccio, great history about this place, look it up, they will happily give you a tour of the wine cellar which is worth the trip.

Trattoria Monti, in the Esquilino neighborhood near the train station, food from Marche, have always enjoyed eating there.

I first went to Roscioli almost 20 years ago on your recommendation. Restaurants in Montalcino, too.

Word to those following this conversation: follow Riccardo’s restaurant recommendations; you will be happy if you do.

In Rome, my favorite restaurants are Armando Al Pantheon and Roscioli Rimessa. Went to a wonderful group dinner (multiple courses with accompanying wines). Had a wonderful time.

In Florence, I loved the Enoteca dell Pitti Goya and the Osteria dell Enoteca (the latter has great Beefsteak Florentine). They are owned by the same people.

Can you send a link? I’m searching “Pizzeria da Remo” but not finding anything with the exact name. There’s some with similar names, but not sure which one your talking about. Thanks!

It’s the place discussed in this article. I’m not sure they have a website.

I’d highly recommend Renato e Luisa. It flies under the radar and is consistently the crowd favorite every time we visit Rome.

Some of the can’t-miss dishes are the stuffed zucchini blossoms, truffle carbonara, balsamic steak, and tiramisu.

Some really good recommendations above, to which I would add All’Arnicio d’Oro da Cialfi, and Emma Pizza, a few minutes walk from Roscioli.

Had a great meal here, once upon a time, too:

Any particular favorite dishes at Casare Al Casaletto? I went once and thought it wasn’t special vs the time/distance to get there.

I live Armando Al Pantheon.

Armando al Pantheon is really fantastic, albeit a very tough reservation to snag.

Pierluigi for top seafood (thanks to @Mark Kaplan for the tip).

If I recall, got a fairly priced pieropan Soave la Rocco.

you are probably right about the distance, they actually opened a downtown location a couple of years ago called Cesare al Pellegrino. never been but is much more central
