Also received the email. Anybody have any tasting notes, reviews, thoughts on the wines?

I haven’t tasted any 2021s, but based on last release’s SC Chard, I’m buying as many of those as I’m allocated!

I’ve only had Joy Road & Purrington from when I did tastings, I think & both did not have enough acid for me. I typically enjoy more Chablis like chardonnays if that’s the right descriptor.

Are any of the other vineyards in the same vein? When I hear/read notes that say round & oak I typically go the other way.

You might like the Platt. It’s very bright and I think a little flinty.

I generally am a big Chablis drinker but I think the SC chard has plenty of acid and isn’t overoaked. Would agree that the platt is also a good option.

The allocation on those is 3. The minimum purchase is 4 bottles. Sometimes, if you ask, you might get extras at the end of the release. But you still need to buy one of the single vineyard bottles no matter what.

Has anyone heard on when the Pinot’s will be released this year?

The 2021 pinots were released ahead of schedule last year. This year it goes from the January chardonnay offer straight to the July cabernet offer.

I’m guessing the 2022 pinots will not be offered until next year

Thanks for the reminder. Sounds like it’s going to be a long gap between Pinot releases then. Gonna have to make ‘em last!

If I recall correctly, I think they mentioned they were moving up the pinot offering last year because there was no cab offering? Or maybe I’m thinking of another winery. Too many purchases

That is accurate

Platt I really enjoyed and aligned well with my palate - racy, lean, no Chard bitterness or too tropical. Bearwallow, was not in my wheelhouse - hint of Pina Colada and not enough raciness.

I popped a ‘21 Sonoma Coast Pinot last week. Couldn’t help myself despite the instruction straight from TRB to let these rest for several months. The wine was still pretty darn good, but the instruction was probably right. These need a little time in bottle to get settled out and in balance… Definitely picking up some Chardonnay in this next release, though

So I’ve purchased the SC and SVD Chards the last few releases, have enjoyed all the SC that I’ve popped ('19 and '20) but I’ve yet to pop any of the SVD’s. I even backfilled some SCs and SVDs from previous vintages locally at a store.

I was thinking this weekend to open up 2-3 and give them a shot to see maybe what I am likely so help with the upcoming order next week. May open 2-3 bottles and Coravin 1-2 bottles for consumption in the near future but lets assume I just stick to opening up 2-3 bottles and no Coravin…

I have following:

  • Bearwallow 2018 and 2019
  • Joy Road 2018 and 2019
  • Platt 2019 and 2020
  • Purrington Rued 2019 and 2020
  • B Thieriot 2019 and 2020

Any guidelines on say like a scale of lean to more full bodied or more mineral to more fruity/floral, etc? If I am only going to pick 2 or 3 I may pick some at different ends of the spectrum if that makes sense.

I haven’t had a lot of RM chards but I would order them from lightest to fullest as
Joy Road
Purrington Rued
Bearwallow
Platt
B Thieriot

Joy Road has always been fairly light to me, which I like. B Thieriot has always been full bodied and sometimes a bit too much. The others depend on the vintage. My 19s and 20s are all still unopened.

Always love these wines. The Theriot especially.

Hopefully Will can sneak us a peak at TRB’s release notes, assuming they are already written.

The ‘20 Thieriot was seriously one of the best Sonoma Chardonnays I’ve ever had. Superb.

Haven’t opened that one yet but not surprised. The 2018 was spectacular.
