RIP Luciano Sandrone

One of the greats of Barolo is gone. So far, I have only seen this in Italian.

That is sad to hear.

(I’m wondering what an idiomatic translation is of “grandi barolisti di Barolo.” It sounds redundant.)

One of the great Barolo-makers of Barolo–maybe? As they make other wines then Barolo in Barolo, as you well know, doesn’t seem wholly redundant.

I’ve only had his Le Vigne once–it was impressive.

RIP, love his wines.

Sad to here. The 2000 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis is still one of my favorite Barolo experiences.

And they make Barolo in other villages than in Barolo.

As Luciano Sandrone was not only from Barolo the region, but from Barolo the village, I think the part translates to “one of the greatest Barolo-makers in the village of Barolo”. At least that doesn’t seem redundant to me.

RIP. We visited in 2004 - long ago of course but we have vivid memories. The winery hired a translator for the visit on their own dime. They were perplexed that we were not in the industry, but rather just folks enthusiastic about their wines. We did not see Luciano but met with brother Luca, who spent about 3 hours with us. Also met their Mom. Special time with some special people. Our deep condolences.
