RIP Bernhard Huber

Sadly this terrific winemaker in Baden lost a battle with cancer on the 11th of this month. His Pinot Noirs have for some time now been among the best of Germany. Will open a bottle of 2007 Bienenberg Spaetburgunder GG tonight and toast his life.

The death of Bernhard Huber leaves certainly a huge gap in the German wine scene, he was the quintessential winemaker for Burgundy varietals.

But not only that, he was also an amazing person, quiet, modest, likeable and down to earth, just a great person.
I met him once at his vineyard and a few times at events, and i was always impressed by the person himself as well as of his wines.

Not only that he has probably produced the best Pinot Noir in Germany, in my opinion, his white wines, its magnificent Chardonnays and Pinot Blanc, as well as its spezial cuvee “Malterer” were standing out and just terrific.

RIP

Very sad indeed. I met him in Hamburg, and was impressed with his humble, unassuming manner. The wines are great. Wonderful PN among others.

Terrible news indeed. On 8 May I enjoyed a visit, he showed me his vineyards and we went through a fine vertical of excellent Pinot Noirs and enjoyed a fine lunch. A supremely generous and thoughtful man - and passionate lover of wine and food. http://www.wine-chronicles.com/blog/germany/

Awful news. RIP.

So very sad. A wonderful man making really special wines.

Terrible. I am really sad. A great man and a great winemaker. I live a few miles from his home/winery and met him for tastings. I know he was ill but didn’t expect this. RIP.
