Rimmerman @ Small and Special

Thanks for posting these, I had not seen these yet.

The Rimmerman video was very interesting. I had no idea he pushed that much wine through his email stories.

Yup, I chat with people several times a week who still doubt that this is a workable business model. I just nod politely and smile. Jon Rimmerman definitely blazed a trail.

Thanks for these.

Glad the Rimmerman talk is up. I really enjoyed that one. It was also great to meet his wife and get to chat with them. Really nice people.

I met John and his wife in SF several years ago when he introduced the Two Hands wines here. What’s interesting to me is that John seems to be on the leading edge of whatever wine wave there is, always out in front. He still pushes through a few Aussies here and there, but I seem to see a lot more European wines these days. In a way, he’s the Kermit Lynch of the internet age. It’s rare that I open a Garagiste wine and don’t at least find my money’s worth, and more often than not am amazed at what he found for me that I would never have done on my own. Enjoyed the talk, as well as Eric’s!

i had visited Garagiste last year, and i was fortunate enough to meet John, when our wine database was in its conceptual stage. i was really impressed with the knowledge and working of John. just after the nmeeting i heard that he was nominated for the Innovator of the year award. Garagiste sells an estimated average of 50,000 bottles a month!!! his passion for wines was really very encouraging.

Interesting video. I had a similar experience as Alan in that almost every wine I bought from Jon was at a minimum interesting and a good value. I quit buying from them because it became more and more difficult to do business with them with orders being lost and months and months passing between payments and deliveries, if the deliveries ever even arrived. I never would have believed he would have survived much less prospered given the apparent lack of organization of his business, but I’m glad he has. I’ve met him a few times and he always seemed like a good guy.

Oh, and the person introducing him on that video may be the single most annoying person in the world.

Hillel is actually a very smart and very sweet guy–just with a REALLY big personality and full of opinions.
