One of our Sigels Elite sotres had a restaurant account blowout sale today and I picked up the following:

2007 Gunderloch Nackenheim Rothenberg Riesling Auslese $19.99 each
2007 Schloss Vollrads Riesling Kabinett halbtrocken $4.99 each
2006 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** $14.99 each

Looks like I got a pretty good deal all the way around.

Fellow Berserker Kendrick was there as well picking up some miscellany.

Sure.

This was an in store sale only and the wines are going fast. Still a few sixers of the Molitor left and I can roll there tomorrow over lunch if anybody wants me to get some.

I heard it was completely cleaned out by this evening. I actually had to be in office today so no chance for me. A shame since it is all of 5 miles from my house.

Yeah, I can see that. It was like a pirahna feeding frenzy when I was there.

They sometimes hold stuff back so I will still pop in this morning. But probably missed all the stupid deals.

Blood in the water…fastest I have seen one of these cleaned out and it had the least notice.

I know. I should have doubled up, but didn’t want to seem greedy.

Have a bottle of the Vollrads in the chill chest right now.

I will be curious on your take on the Vollrads. That is a house that has disappointed for decades (literally).

Good God, those were awesome wines at awesome prices!

For the money, no doubt I like it. I do have limited experience with German Riesling, so I have to be up front with that. It doesn’t have the precision of Donnhoff or the opulence of JJ Prum or Cristoffel, but it does have plenty of zippy acid to bolster up the big tropical fruit. No noticed sweetness (duh), but it doesn’t come across as bone-dry either.
