Richmond Wine Shops

I am heading down to Richmond today for a wedding. Are there any wine shops in the area worth checking out? We will be in town today through Saturday.

Ideally I’m looking for a shop with some unique offerings, I have no need to go to a Total Wine or the like.

Gary York would likely know.

Local here. J. Emerson and Barrel Thief are your best bets. Hard to label them but both have a range of high end, niche, aged, trendy, cheap, you name it. Maybe more “unique” selections at Barrel Thief, while J. Emerson caters to a wealthier suburban customer. They’re about a half mile apart. Jardin (@jardin_rva) should be opening on Cary Street any day now but probably not by this weekend. There is also Once Upon a Vine (near Gary York’s restaurant) but I can’t remember much about it. Some people like Secco Wine Bar in the Fan District but it’s not my favorite. Enjoy RVA!

There’s quite a lot of good beer makers Richmond. I know that’s not your question at all, but maybe something to look into while you’re there.

Thanks for the recommendations, we went to the Barrel Thief and picked up a nice smattering of wines for the weekend.
