Rhys, What is going on?

Did the members of the board fell out of love with Rhys ? I have never seen so many “for sale at cost”, just wondering.

I believe 2012 was a large crop.

People wanting to max out their allocations in the future but can afford their full allocation right now.

These people are keeping folks like me from ever getting an allocation.

happens every mailer with any semi popular list.

People talk Rhys but drink Sea Smoke.

Just kidding. But their production has increased and prices have risen over the years, so it’s no surprise that the wines aren’t as scarce as they used to be. I can’t buy too many these days, but I’ve mostly been happy with the bottles I’ve opened, and I have over 50 bottles in storage now.

I’d vote for the price rise and desire to keep allocation levels as the main driver for people offering wine for sale. You got to keep your purchasing up to get the “better” wines.
You buy your full allocation two times a year for three years or so and you end up with a lot of wine. Multiple that by the number of producers you buy from. You start to take a pause when the next offer comes along.

I might as well rename my offsite storage locker to “Rhys locker”

Someone should start a poll, “How many bottles of Rhys do you own?”

Add after 0 above which one fits for you    :frowning: :stuck_out_tongue:  :astonished:

I have had a couple flawed bottles recently and I’m not popping many corks (I have never had a flawed Alesia, however). Given the price point, that gives me pause.

What were the flaws?

Prices rose in the past but not this year. The two obvious things I see are:

  1. More wine produced/allocated
  2. Many people bought futures of some of these

2008 Bearwallow tasted of smoke taint. Definitely off.

2009 Family Farm had Brett issues.

In both cases, the flaws were confirmed by experienced tasters. In the case of the Family Farm, it was confirmed by 4-5 others as it was part of a tasting.

I’ve been a Rhys buyer for many year. Awesome quality, but for me I just can’t afford them anymore. I have probably 40-50 Rhys in my cellar but have been happy to buy Alesia recently. To each their own. I’m glad that Kevin can get the top dollar for his wines. He deserves whatever the market can afford him. Every older Rhys continues to stun me with goodness and makes me sad I can’t afford to continue to acquire.

I like. Rhys but im not a big pinot drinker. Im at about six bottles per year. But happy.

Eh, I bought what I could afford and left the rest for them to offer as wish lists.

I’m in for about a case/year of mixed SVDs heavy on the Chardonnay instead of 1-2 cases like I used to. If higher prices combined with other people gaming the system cost me access to the Chardonnays or my existing verticals of SVD PN, I guess I’d be annoyed, but I trust that the system isn’t really that crude and the number of speculators/flippers not actually that high.

I buy what my wife and I can drink, the rest can go to new listers…too much trouble to broker wine, sheesh I do it for a living, at some point this has to be fun! Why I wish list seniority was based on length on list vs. quantity purchased, but I don’t begrudge Kevin and team anything, happy they offer me wine period.

Hope new listers get some of my leftovers.

I have never caught smoke taint in 2008 Bearwallow. Never.

This…

Been on the list from the start and do not get offered one or two of the wines since I do not max out my allocation.
