Rhone Report, Issue #3

Jeb,

I’m having a bit of trouble negotiating the paypal donation. Any advice?

Jeb, great work! I have always enjoyed the Negly Falaise, and saw that you gave the '05 a huge score. Distribution in the US is spotty-- I bought the '06 for 12.99/bottle recently at K&L, but see no 2005 anywhere in the US. Have you had the '06, and if so, how would you compare it?

Hi Faryan, you should be able to click on the donate link from the pdf file (or just go to http://www.therhonereport.com/donate.php page), then click on the graphic that says click here to donate.

It should take you straight to the paypal page. From there, enter the amount, select update total and then select the continue link under the “Don’t have a PayPal account”. The next page will allow you to securely enter a credit card and billing information.

Hope this helps but if not, let me know what you’re seeing. Thank you for donating and it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you Mo. I haven’t had the '06 but for 13 bucks, that’s a leap I’d take! I’m not sure what’s going on with their import/distribution but it is indeed spotty. Have you already got the '06s?

Mo,

Ch Negly distribution has become a debacle.

We used to sell Negly like hotcakes. The wines are supposed to come in through Jeffrye Davies, but he basically passed the torch to Bob Bofman. With Bob, you are supposed to buy the wines in Europe and then pay to get them delivered. Unfortunately, with that kind of business model, Negly Falaise may never be here again.

Any idea on the production on those wines Dan? Seems like they’d want to bring them in.

Very nice work, Jeb. Lots of great information which will help in my buying decisions. Congrats!! [welldone.gif]

Agreed–printed great for me too!

Just to be clear, they used to be brought in. I am sure production is of decent quantity, especially on the cheapies like La Falaise.

If you come to NY, we can pop some 1997 Neglys, the first vintage.

Spent some of my afternoon browsing and am enjoying this issue, Jeb. I especially like having several notes referencing non-current & aged bottlings. It’s good insight.

My only wish is that you could have tasted the Chapoutier Bila-Haut Lapidem; I think it could have topped your list of values!

I’ll see if I can find a bottle Phillip.

No reason to go out of your way on my account–but if you happen to come across a bottle, I think you’d be pleased by what’s inside.

Flipping through some more pages, as a guy who enjoys Grenache & Syrah from all over, these reports are outstanding. Thanks again Jeb!

Jeb -

Liked your review of La Peira. I just bought a case of the white - great to drink now but I am very interested to see how it will age over time.

Their flagship wine is one of my favorites…

Jeb, I love the report. Quick question. For the older vintages, do you plan on tasting certain wines (for example, something that may be in your cellar) or is it more a “take it as it comes” approach. Stated another way, do you have an idea of which older vintages you decide to include? I enjoy the variety of the older vintages.

Matt, that white from them was rocking. Impressive stuff that will stand up to anything from the south of France.

Joshua, I’ll selectively source older bottles for the report or pull bottles from the cellar… Sometimes I get lucky and a friend opens one as well.
