Retailer Check: W.H. Frank Wine & Liquor (Islip, NY)

W.H. Wine & Liquor out of Islip popped up in a Winesearcher query.
Anyone ever do business with them?
Thanks.

terrible experience…do not purchase from them.
they changed the price of a wine once I expressed interest in it.(85 LLC)
on another wine…I had a corked bottle soon after purchase and they told me what I experienced was sediment from the old bottle (96 Jadot Suchots).

Jerks

Thanks, Suzanne!
Something about the head-turning low prices on a scattered assortment of older bottles led me to thinking i should be concerned.
I did send an email, be interested to see if I get a response.
Thanks!

So, I’ve had a little different experience, I guess relative to my expectations. I’ve bought some wine from them over the years. Not too much. They’re slow to respond to email, they won’t take stuff back if there’s a problem, the’re ‘cranky’ on email. But you can get some great deals. Everything’s a tradeoff, at one point they had a range of Jadot ‘Musigny’ vintages at really great prices, was worth the effort…

As indicated in the previous thread, I’ve been pretty lucky but YMMV. Adding to the previous thread, I think they’ve been pretty thoroughly cherry picked by now. I actually ran into a rep at a tasting who was responsible for taking the remainder of one of the wines I picked up from them (which still shows up as available on their web site). Unless the wine you’re looking at is very obscure, it’s probably gone.

Every time I open a bottle from them, I lift up a toast to the previous owner. He really knew what he was doing. Current management, not so much.

Yep. I doubt all those great Bordeaux deals actually exist (I just checked the site, bordeaux looks cheap!). Maybe the DRC stuff is there, but prob not…

Thanks, Peter and Mark for the additional info.

Not worth the risk on higher priced items. Sketchy storage conditions and poor customer service.
