I purchased from them a couple of weeks ago and had a good experience. Easy transaction and shipped super quick.
Haven’t opened the bottles but nothing seemed suspect. Thumbs up.

I know people who know Thatcher, have chatted with him on social media, and he’s been featured in a number of publications as an up and coming somm. I think you’re probably safe ordering form him.

I got to know Thatcher last summer in Beaune, when he was in town for the better part of a month. He was a great lockdown drinking companion (finally I found someone willing to hike to the Abbaye de Saint-Vivant de Vergy, drink two bottles of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Hautes-Côtes white with lunch, and stumble back) and has a brilliant palate.

What happened to Thatcher’s? I bought a bunch of stuff from them in '19 and '20 when they were fairly new. Good prices on quality stuff. Lately every “new wine Saturday” offer is hawking the same bottles of overpriced, overhyped cult wines that have been on the website for months and aren’t selling. Prices on the non-cult wines are significantly higher than when they first opened - anecdotally I’d say 20% higher compared to low market prices. Which makes sense because I’ve heard they are buying some stuff from some other importer-retailers that typically have the lowest market prices and then marking up from there. There’s an occasional deal to be found on stuff they actually import directly, but you have to wade through all the cruft. Just seems like another operation that started with promise and has devolved into profit chasing.
I bought a little from them in 2022. 25 bucks for cold ship in the Summer was appreciated. It encouraged me to buy. But i got the email too today, and i looked at thier sales over the holidays. For me, their pricing turns me off.

Same here. Had great experiences with my few orders (still have some Cedric Bouchard on preorder) but haven’t bought in a while due to prices.

Idk, I’ve bought a lot from thatcher this past year, a lot of what you’re seeing in the new on Saturday emails is a bit picked over. I wouldn’t say the prices are low by any means but I have gotten some high demand wines for below wsp low with the 5% discount. Their pricing on cellar purchases is pretty sharp; I got 02 Comtes for 200 a bottle or so.
