Retailer check: Courtier, Oakland CA.

Anyone buy from Coutier in Oakland? Thanks… champagne.gif

Highly recommend! Courtier is my main retailer for Champagne. Not the prettiest website with descriptions, but if you already know what you want and appreciate good service and quality producers, that’s a top pick.

I’m in the Bay Area so can’t comment too much on shipping for them.

One can search up Bill Klapp’s (positive) comments on Glasby on WB. As well as this tangential article which lightly touches on the origin.

So, yesterday PGC was tagged in an Instagram photo. It was this retailer. I looked carefully and noticed they were pouring 2015 Balcombe Vineyard, Block 1B. That wine has not been offered to distributors in over 15 years. I then went and looked at the site. Uh, holy crap. There is a wealth of pretty rare PGC wines from 2013-2018 listed. I inquired and was told that they had recently acquired a 60 case cellar. I have no idea who it was but they were (obviously) a big and dedicated customer. There are some gems in there. Things we don’t even have beyond a handful of bottles of at this point. Here is the link, just scroll down to the Patricia Green Cellars section. Products – Courtier

Just putting it out there for folks that are interested in some wines with some bottle age and some stuff we barely make any of.

I worked with Michael: passionate, knowledgable, straight shooter, fair and pleasant gentleman.

I started buying from Michael when he was with Premier Cru and I always trusted him. Indeed, he contacted me to ask about the 2010 Hudelot Noellat wines as they had realized that the store’s bottles showed leakage or slightly extruding corks, and they couldn’t go back to the domaine as these were grey market purchases. I went into my cellar and realized that some 2010s I had purchased from other sources - as well as a couple of older bottles I’d bought upon release - showed the same thing. After chatting with him, I decided to take the case I had purchased (and they’ve been fine). I don’t recall what I advised him re his other customers but told him he could relate my experience.

I have also bought some older bottles (1998 Muller-Catoir BA!) from him at his new location and have been very happy.
