Restaurants near Univ of Pittsburgh?

Anything decent walking distance from the University for an early dinner or happy hour? Nothing too fancy.
Driving is an option, but walking is preferred. I’m not seeing a whole lot of options.

Let me horn in on Abbie’s thread to broaden it. Any restaurant recommendations generally for Pittsburgh since the last thread?

Union grill is close; it’s casual but does have pretty good food.

There are a lot of other options that are a short drive away.

Fet Fisk in Bloomfield lots of national exposure. Hipster type place and a difficult reservation.

Fish nor Fowl in Bloomfield/East Liberty. It’s. More Italian but have a few fish dishes. The pastas last week were really good. Sadly, no corkage allowed.

Balvanera is the Strip is a branch of a NYC Argentine restaurant. Good restaurant, don’t know about corkage.

Morcilla in Lawrenceville. Spanish/Basque type food.

Butterjoint is in Oakland (where Pitt is), maybe not within walking distance. We go there occasionally.

Most of the Pitt/CMU options are geared towards students. Shadyside seems more like the place where professors go for dinner. Casbah is one choice. @MChang have you been to Lilith? Seems to be pretty good, but we haven’t been.

Lilith is very good but very small and hard to get into.

I believe Abbie is vegetarian so apteka would probably be the best choice if you’re going to go somewhere by car.

Forgot about Apteka. Another place with national “exposure.” Only reservations for 4 or more. If you’re vegetarian this is the place. Vom Boden had a tasting event there.

My wife isn’t crazy about vegetarian so we have only gone a few times, but it’s really good. Plus no reservations for 2.

Butterjoint looks really good and might be just what we are looking for.
I’m meeting a friend to see a concert, so we are looking for somewhere to go beforehand and on the more casual side. I’d prefer not to have to make reservations, as I don’t know our exact timeline yet.
Apteka looks awesome, and I definitely need to check it out soon.
