I have to be there for a few days. It doesn’t look like there are any restaurants there that thrill me. I’ve read the threads on DC restaurants but I have no idea how far they are from National Harbor. So please recommend great places that I won’t have to drive more than 30 minutes to get to. Type of food doesn’t matter. Great restaurant and either friendly corkage or decent/not crazy expensive wine list do matter.
Paul,
Most if not all of the restaurants in NH are chains, etc. They really cater to the convention crowd. Depending on traffic, you can be in Old Town Alexandria in about ~10-15 minutes, and DC/arlington in 20-30. I personally updated the Northern VA BYOB recently, and the DC one is relatively up to date.
Happy to help narrow down choices as desired.
Joe, the problem with the BYO threads is that there is little chatter on the restaurants themselves but they are helpful for the BYO aspect. Have you been to Vermillon? Looks interesting and not far from where I’m at.
Paul, I have not, but i have heard good things. I honestly don’t make it to Alexandria much, even though it’s not that far from where I live. That would be a quick trip from where you are staying.
You are about a 5 minute drive to Old Town Alexandria, but will then probably need 10-20 minutes to drive through/find parking. If the weather is nice, you can skip the drive and take the water taxi.
Top of the list would be Restaurant Eve. Modern American cuisine and generally very good. Wine list is ok, not particularly deep or well priced, but as I recall not completely offensive either. Luckily, corkage is now legal in Virginia and the going rate there is I believe $25. You may want to call and double check, but I am fairly sure that is correct.
Haven’t been yet, but Vermillion has gotten some good reviews.
Paul; Nothing real serious but see if Obyricki’s and Bertha’s Mussels are still around. Fun places with good Baltimore seafood.
Cheers!
